Claims
- 1. A method for breeding swine that are resistant to E. coli associated diseases, said method comprising:
a. selecting for breeding swine that have a genetic polymorphism in at least one copy of the alpha (1,2) fucosyltransferase 1 gene that identifies them as swine that are resistant to E. coli related intestinal diseases when said gene is homozygous; b. breeding the selected swine; and c. selecting those swine resulting from breeding that are homozygous for the resistant allele of the alpha (1,2) fucosyltransferase 1 gene for production of resistant swine.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein E. coli is strain F18.
