Claims
- 1. A disk drive information storage device comprising:
- a housing having a footprint that includes a first dimension of about 35 mm;
- a substantially rigid disk supported in said housing, a surface of said disk having a plurality of concentric tracks with each track being subdivided into a plurality of sectors by prerecorded embedded servo fields wherein said storage device includes means for using said prerecorded servo fields for radially and circumferentially positioning a read/write head over any one of tracks in said plurality of concentric tracks, wherein a prerecorded servo field comprises:
- an index/AGC sub-field for identifying the sector containing the servo field and for simultaneously providing automatic gain control data; and
- a cylinder address/AGC sub-field for identifying the coarse radial position of the read/write head and for simultaneously providing automatic gain control data.
- 2. A disk drive information storage device according to claim 1, wherein said index/AGC sub-field includes information for an integrity check of said prerecorded servo field.
- 3. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 1-2, further comprising a spin motor for driving said disk to rotate said disk, wherein said spin motor is operable from a supply voltage in the range of from about 3 volts to about 5 volts.
- 4. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 1-2, further comprising a ferrite shield member supported in said housing adjacent to said read/write head for shielding said read/write head from electrical noise.
- 5. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 1-2, wherein said read/write head is a 50% read/write head.
- 6. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 1-2, wherein a portion of a surface of said disk is textured thereby providing a take-off and landing zone, and further wherein said disk drive is a contact start/stop device.
- 7. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 1-2 further comprising a spin motor for rotating said disk, said spin motor including a plurality of poles, and wherein the number of poles is greater than twelve.
- 8. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 1-2, wherein said disk has a diameter in the range of from about 33 mm to about 34 mm.
- 9. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 1-2, wherein said footprint includes a second dimension of about 5.08 mm.
- 10. A disk drive information storage device comprising:
- a housing;
- a substantially rigid disk supported in said housing, said disk having a diameter in the range of from about 33 mm to about 34 mm and a surface of said disk having a plurality of concentric tracks with each track being subdivided into a plurality of sectors by prerecorded embedded servo fields wherein said storage device includes means for using said prerecorded servo fields for radially and circumferentially positioning a read/write head over any one of tracks in said plurality of concentric tracks, wherein a prerecorded servo field comprises:
- an index/AGC sub-field for identifying the sector containing the servo field and for simultaneously providing automatic gain control data; and
- a cylinder address/AGC sub-field for identifying the coarse radial position of the read/write head and for simultaneously providing automatic gain control data.
- 11. A disk drive information storage device according to claim 10, wherein said index/AGC sub-field includes information for an integrity check of said prerecorded servo field.
- 12. A disk drive information storage device according to any of the claims 10-11, further comprising a spin motor for driving said disk to rotate said disk, wherein said spin motor is operable from a supply voltage in the range of from about 3 volts to about 5 volts.
- 13. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 10-11, further comprising a ferrite shield member supported in said housing adjacent to said read/write head for shielding said read/write head from electrical noise.
- 14. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 10-11, wherein said read/write head is a 50% read/write head.
- 15. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 10-11, wherein a portion of a surface of said disk is textured thereby providing a take-off and landing zone, and further wherein said disk drive is a contact start/stop device.
- 16. A disk drive information storage device according to any of claims 10-11, further comprising a spin motor for rotating said disk, said spin motor including a plurality of poles, and wherein the number of poles is greater than twelve.
