Claims
- 1. An insulation system comprising an evacuated form filled with microsphere particles.
- 2. The insulation system of claim 1, wherein the microsphere particles are glass.
- 3. The insulation system of claim 1, wherein the evacuated form is a flat panel.
- 4. The insulation system of claim 1, wherein the evacuated form is curved.
- 5. The insulation system of claim 1, wherein the evacuated form is an annular space.
- 6. The insulation system of claim 1, wherein the microsphere particles comprise up to 50% by volume of opaque microsphere particles.
- 7. The insulation system of claim 1, wherein the microsphere particles are non-uniformly sized.
- 8. The insulation system of claim 1, wherein the microsphere particles are uniformly sized.
- 9. A method of making an insulation form comprising:
filling a form with microsphere particles; evacuating the form to a pressure below ambient or backfilling with a dry gas.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein said form is a flat panel.
- 11. The method of claim 9, wherein said form is curved.
- 12. The method of claim 9, wherein said form is an annular space.
- 13. The method of claim 9, wherein the form is flexible.
- 14. A pipe insulation system comprising:
one or more evacuated curved forms filled with microspheres, wherein when assembled, the forms encircle a cylindrical opening.
- 15. The system of claim 14, wherein there are two or more forms.
- 16. The system of claim 15, wherein there are three forms.
- 17. A flat panel insulator comprising:
top and bottom sides separated by four edge sides fixably connected to the top and bottom sides, wherein said top and bottom sides are positioned approximately equidistant from each other, said sides forming an inner portion, said inner portion filled with microspheres.
- 18. The insulator of claim 17, wherein said inner portion is evacuated.
- 19. The insulator of claim 17, wherein said inner portion is filled with gas.
- 20. The insulator of claim 17, wherein said microspheres are non-uniformly sized.
- 21. The insulator of claim 17, wherein said microspheres are uniformly sized.
- 22. A curved insulator comprising:
a curved top and curved bottom side, said top and bottom sides positioned approximately equidistant from each other; two edge sides connecting said top and bottom sides, wherein an inner portion is formed; said inner portion filled with microspheres.
- 23. The insulator of claim 22, wherein said inner portion is evacuated.
- 24. The insulator of claim 22, wherein said inner portion is filled with gas.
- 25. The insulator of claim 22, wherein said microspheres are non-uniformly sized.
- 26. The insulator of claim 22, wherein said microspheres are uniformly sized.
- 27. An insulated annular space comprising:
a pre-existing annular space filled with microspheres.
- 28. The insulated annular space of claim 27, wherein said inner portion is evacuated.
- 29. The insulated annular space of claim 27, wherein said inner portion is filled with gas.
- 30. The insulated annular space of claim 27, wherein said microspheres are non-uniformly sized.
- 31. The insulated annular space of claim 27, wherein said microsphere are uniformly sized.
