Claims
- 1. A piston-actuated modular gripper assembly which comprises:a body having a yoke structure defined a one end thereof by a pair of spaced apart wall members, and a fluid driven actuator at an opposite end; a plurality of opposable jaw members, at least one of the plurality of opposable jaw members being pivotal and each of the plurality of opposable jaw members having a tip seat; and a workpiece holding tip adapted to be secured in at least two orientations to the tip seat of each jaw member, the workpiece holding tip comprising: a base member having first and second sides, the second side located opposite the first side, and the base member being selectively attached to one of the plurality of jaw members by at least one fastener disposed through at least a portion of both the base member and one of the plurality of jaw members; and a tip member extending from the first side of the base member and having a first gripping surface located at a first end distal from the first side of the base member, and the tip member concurrently extending from the second side of the base member and having a second gripping surface located at a second end distal from the second side of the base member; wherein the first gripping surface having an axis which intersects at least a portion of the second gripping surface; and wherein the axis does not intersect the fastener.
- 2. The piston-actuated modular gripper assembly according to claim 1, wherein the workpiece holding tips include gripping surfaces on opposed sides thereof and are reversibly securable to the tip.
- 3. The piston-actuated modular gripper assembly according to claim 2, wherein the gripping surfaces on each side of the tip member are identical.
- 4. The piston-actuated modular gripper assembly according to claim 1, wherein the gripping surfaces on at least two of the sides of the tip member are different.
- 5. The piston-actuated modular gripper assembly according to claim 4, wherein at least one of the gripping surfaces includes a pad.
- 6. A piston actuated modular gripper having a workpiece holding tip, the workpiece holding tip comprising a base member having first and second sides, the second side located opposite the first side, and the base member being selectively attachable to the gripper by at least one fastener disposed through at least a portion of both the base member and the gripper, and a tip member extending from the first side of the base member and having a first holding surface located at a first end distal from the first side of the base member, the tip member concurrently extending from the second side of the base member and having a second holding surface located at a second end distal from the second side of the base member wherein the first holding surface having an axis which intersects at least a portion of the second holding surface, and wherein the axis does not intersect the fastener.
- 7. The workpiece holding tip according to claim 6 further including holding surfaces on opposed sides thereof and are reversibly securable to the piston-actuated modular gripper assembly.
- 8. The workpiece holding tip according to claim 7, wherein the holding surfaces on each side of the workpiece holding tip are identical.
- 9. The workpiece holding tip according to claim 7, wherein the holding surfaces on at least two of the sides of the workpiece holding tip are different.
- 10. The workpiece holding tip according to claim 7, wherein at least one of the holding surfaces includes a pad.
