Claims
- 1. A device for providing wheelchair axle position adjustment with respect to a wheelchair frame comprising:
- an axle adjustment mechanism adapted for receiving a wheelchair axle lug, said axle adjustment mechanism comprising at least one receptacle and permitting adjustment of the lug within said at least one receptacle and permitting firm attachment of the lug within said mechanism, and
- a rotational adjustment mechanism comprising a plurality of fastener holes for rotationally adjusting the device with respect to the wheelchair frame in increments of less than 90 degrees.
- 2. A device as recited in claim 1 wherein said axle adjustment mechanism comprises at least one receptacle which is an elongated slot.
- 3. A device as recited in claim 2 wherein said slot is curved.
- 4. A device as recited in claim 1 wherein a combination of said axle adjustment mechanism and said rotational adjustment mechanism accommodates forward, backward and vertical adjustment of said lug with respect to the wheelchair frame.
- 5. A device as recited in claim 1 wherein said axle adjustment mechanism comprises a plurality of receptacles.
- 6. A device as recited in claim 1 wherein said device is adapted to change the center of gravity of a wheelchair rider.
- 7. A device as recited in claim 6 wherein said device is adapted to provide fore and aft wheelchair wheel adjustment with respect to the wheelchair frame.
- 8. A device as recited in claim 6 wherein said mechanism is adapted to provide vertical wheelchair wheel position adjustment with respect to the wheelchair frame.
- 9. A device as recited in claim 1 wherein said device is injection molded from composite materials.
- 10. A wheelchair rear wheel positioning frame for providing wheelchair axle position adjustment with respect to a wheelchair frame comprising:
- a rim,
- an axle adjustment mechanism comprising at least one lug receptacle within said rim, said axle adjustment mechanism being adapted for receiving a wheelchair axle lug, said axle adjustment mechanism permitting adjustment of the lug within said axle adjustment mechanism and permitting firm attachment of the lug within said at least one receptacle of said axle adjustment mechanism, and
- a rotational adjustment mechanism comprising a plurality of fastener holes for rotationally adjusting the device with respect to the wheelchair frame in increments of less than 90 degrees;
- wherein the positioning frame is a truss structure having an xyz coordinate system, the z axis being parallel to the wheelchair axle, the truss structure comprising:
- a plurality of connected structural plates, a majority of said plates being parallel to the z-axis in a first direction, each of the majority of said plates being thick in said first direction, each of the majority of plates being thick in a second direction which is a direction other than the z-axis, and each of said majority of plates being thin in a direction which is normal to said first direction and to said second direction.
- 11. A device as recited in claim 10 wherein said axle adjustment mechanism comprises at least one receptacle which is an elongated slot.
- 12. A device as recited in claim 10 wherein said slot is curved.
- 13. A device as recited in claim 10 wherein a combination of said axle adjustment mechanism and said rotational adjustment mechanism accommodates forward, backward and vertical adjustment of said lug with respect to the wheelchair frame.
- 14. A device as recited in claim 10 wherein said axle adjustment mechanism comprises a plurality of receptacles.
- 15. A device as recited in claim 10 wherein said device is adapted to change the center of gravity of a wheelchair rider.
- 16. A device as recited in claim 15 wherein said device is adapted to provide fore and aft wheelchair wheel adjustment with respect to the wheelchair frame.
- 17. A device as recited in claim 15 wherein said mechanism is adapted to provide vertical wheelchair wheel position adjustment with respect to the wheelchair frame.
- 18. A device as recited in claim 10 wherein said device is injection molded from composite materials.
