Claims
- 1. A multi-functional material with a photocatalytic function, comprising:a base; a photocatalytic layer having a photocatalytic function and disposed on a surface of said base, said photocatalytic layer including at least a surface layer exposed outwardly, said surface layer being composed of fine photocatalytic particles joined together with interstices defined therebetween at a predetermined porosity; a binder layer disposed between said photocatalytic layer and said base such that said photocatalytic layer is disposed on the surface of said base through said binder layer; said photocatalytic layer further including a lower layer embedded in the binder layer; and said interstices between said photocatalytic particles of said surface layer of said photocatalytic layer are filled with particles which are smaller than said pores; at least some of said smaller particles are reacted with a solution containing a salt such that metal ions of the smaller particles form an insoluble, white or colorless salt therewith; said photocatalytic particles are made of TiO2, the smaller particles filled in the interstices between the photocatalytic particles are made of Ag, and said solution containing a salt comprises an aqueous solution of a halide.
- 2. A multi-functional material with a photocatalytic function, comprising:a base; a photocatalytic layer having a photocatalytic function and disposed on a surface of said base, said photocatalytic layer including at least a surface layer exposed outwardly, said surface layer being composed of fine photocatalytic particles joined together with interstices defined therebetween at a predetermined porosity; a binder layer disposed between said photocatalytic layer and said base such that said photocatalytic layer is disposed on the surface of said base through said binder layer; said photocatalytic layer further including a lower layer embedded in the binder layer; said interstices between said photocatalytic particles of said surface layer of said photocatalytic layer are filled with particles which are smaller than said pores; said surface layer of said photocatalytic layer is further composed of electron-capturing particles fixed to surfaces of the photocatalytic particles or surfaces of the particles filled in said intersticies; and said photocatalytic particles comprise rutile TiO2 and said electron capturing particles include at least one of Ni, Pd and Pt fixed to the surfaces of the photocatalytic particles from a solution of a metal salt of at least one of Ni, Pd and Pt which is coated on the photocatalytic particles and irradiated with light containing ultraviolet rays.
- 3. A multi-functional material according to claim 2, wherein said photocatalytic layer is a thin rutile TiO2 film having a thickness ranging from 0.1 μm to 0.9 μm.
