Claims
- 1. An at-least five-layer plastic injection molded or injection blow-molded article having a side and bottom walls comprised of
- an outside surface layer,
- an inside surface layer,
- an internal layer,
- a first intermediate layer between the outside surface layer and the internal layer,
- and a second intermediate layer between the inside surface layer and the internal layer, wherein the internal layer has a terminal end encapsulated by intermediate layer material.
- 2. An at-least five-layer plastic injection molded article having a side and bottom walls comprised of
- an outside surface layer,
- an inside surface layer,
- an internal layer,
- a first intermediate layer between the outside surface layer and the internal layer,
- and a second intermediate layer between the inside surface layer and the internal layer, wherein the internal layer has a terminal end encapsulated primarily by first intermediate layer material.
- 3. An at-least five-layer plastic injection molded article having a side and bottom walls comprised of
- an outside surface layer,
- an inside surface layer,
- an internal layer,
- a first intermediate layer intermediate between the outside surface layer and the internal layer,
- and a second intermediate layer intermediate the inside surface layer and the internal layer, wherein the internal layer has a terminal end encapsulated by first intermediate layer material.
- 4. The injection molded plastic article of claim 1 wherein the article is a container having a marginal end portion, and the terminal end is in a portion of the marginal end portion.
- 5. The injection molded plastic article of claim 2 wherein the article is a container having a marginal end portion, and the terminal end is in a portion of the marginal end portion.
- 6. The injection molded plastic article of claim 3 wherein the article is a container having a marginal end portion, and the terminal end is in a portion of the marginal end portion.
- 7. The injection molded plastic article of claim 4 wherein the marginal end portion includes a flange and the encapsulated terminal end is within the flange.
- 8. The injection molded plastic article of claim 5 wherein the marginal end portion includes a flange and the encapsulated terminal end is within the flange.
- 9. The injection molded plastic article of claim 4 wherein the marginal end portion of the internal layer is folded over and the folded over portion is in the marginal end portion of the container side wall.
- 10. The injection molded plastic article of claim 9 wherein the folded over portion of the internal layer is toward the inside of the container.
- 11. The injection molded plastic article of claim 8 wherein the terminal end portion that is folded over is folded over toward the inside of the container.
- 12. The injection molded plastic article of claim 9 wherein the folded over portion of the internal layer is toward the outside of the container.
- 13. The injection molded plastic article of claim 8 wherein the terminal end portion that is folded over is folded over toward the outside of the container.
- 14. The injection molded plastic article of claim 7 wherein an end closure is secured to the flange of the article.
- 15. The injection molded plastic article of claim 14 wherein an end closure is double seamed to the article and the flange is part of the double seam.
- 16. The injection molded plastic article of claim 8 wherein an end closure is secured to the flange of the article.
- 17. The injection molded plastic article of claim 15 wherein an end closure is double seamed to the article and the flange is part of the double seam.
- 18. The injection molded plastic article of claim 9 wherein an end closure is double seamed to a portion of the marginal end portion of the container side wall.
- 19. The injection molded plastic article of claim 11 wherein an end closure is double seamed to the article and the flange is part of the double seam.
- 20. The injection molded plastic article of claim 13 wherein an end closure is double seamed to the article and the flange is part of the double seam.
- 21. The injection molded plastic article of claim 7 wherein a flexible lid is sealed onto a portion of the flange.
- 22. The injection molded plastic article of claim 8 wherein a flexible lid is sealed onto a portion of the flange.
- 23. The injection molded plastic article of claim 11 wherein a flexible lid is sealed onto a portion of the flange.
- 24. The injection molded plastic article of claim 13 wherein a flexible lid is sealed onto a portion of the flange.
- 25. The injection molded plastic article of claim 4 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.
- 26. The injection molded plastic article of claim 7 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.
- 27. The injection molded plastic article of claim 15 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.
- 28. The injection molded plastic article of claim 8 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.
- 29. The injection molded plastic article of claim 9 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.
- 30. The injection molded plastic article of claim 11 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.
- 31. The injection molded plastic article of claim 13 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.
- 32. The injection molded plastic article of claim 14 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.
- 33. The injection molded plastic article of claim 16 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.
- 34. The injection molded plastic article of claim 18 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.

The injection molded plastic article of claim 19 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.

The injection molded plastic article of claim 20 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.

The injection molded plastic article of claim 21 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.

The injection molded plastic article of claim 22 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.

The injection molded plastic article of claim 23 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.

The injection molded or injection blow-molded plastic article of claim 24 wherein the inside and outside surface layers are each comprised of polyolefin, the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material and the intermediate layers are comprised of adherent material suitable for adhering the surface layers to the internal layer.
- 41. A multi-layer molded plastic container whose side and bottom walls are comprised of
- an outside surface layer,
- an inside surface layer, and
- an internal layer between the outside and inside surface layers, wherein the ratio of the internal layer thickness in the bottom wall relative to the total bottom wall thickness is on the average greater than the ratio of the internal layer thickness in the side wall relative to the total side wall thickness.
- 42. The container of claim 41 wherein the internal layer includes an oxygen barrier material.
- 43. A multi-layer molded plastic container injected from a multi-coinjection nozzle injection molding machine whose side and bottom walls are comprised of
- an outside surface layer,
- an inside surface layer, and
- an internal layer between the outside and inside surface layers, wherein the bottom wall total thickness is less than the side wall total thickness and wherein a portion of the thickness of the internal layer in the bottom wall is at least equal to the average thickness of said layer in said side wall.
- 44. The container of claim 43 wherein the internal layer includes an oxygen barrier material.
- 45. A multi-layer molded plastic container whose side and bottom walls are comprised of
- an outside surface layer,
- an inside surface layer, and
- an internal layer between the outside and inside surface layers, wherein the bottom wall total thickness is less than the total thickness of the side wall and wherein in a central portion of the bottom wall the thickness of the internal layer is greater than the average thickness of the internal layer in the side wall.
- 46. The container of claim 45 wherein the internal layer includes an oxygen barrier material.
- 47. A multi-layer molded plastic container whose side and bottom walls are comprised of
- an outside surface layer,
- an inside surface layer, and
- an internal layer between the outside and inside surface layers, wherein the average bottom wall total thickness is less than the average side wall total thickness and wherein at least a portion of said internal layer is thicker in the bottom wall than the average thickness of said internal layer in the side wall.
- 48. The container of claim 47 wherein the internal layer is an oxygen barrier material.
- 49. The molded container of claim 42 wherein the oxygen barrier material is a polymer of ethylene vinyl alcohol.
- 50. The molded container of claim 44 wherein the oxygen barrier material is a polymer of ethylene vinyl alcohol.
- 51. The molded container of claim 46 wherein the oxygen barrier material is a polymer of ethylene vinyl alcohol.
- 52. The molded container of claim 48 wherein the oxygen barrier material is a polymer of ethylene vinyl alcohol.
- 53. The molded container of claim 41 wherein the container is injection blow molded.
- 54. The molded container of claim 42 wherein the container is injection blow molded.
- 55. The molded container of claim 43 wherein the container is injection blow molded.
- 56. The molded container of claim 44 wherein the container is injection blow molded.

- 66. The molded article of claim 49 wherein the internal layer also includes an adherent layer on either side of said polymer of ethylene vinyl alcohol.
- 67. The molded article of claim 53 wherein the internal layer also includes an adherent layer on either side of said oxygen barrier material.
- 68. The multi-layer plastic container of each of claims 41-66 or claim 67 wherein the container is injection molded or injection blow-molded.
