Claims
- 1. A capacitor comprising:a capacitor body having first and second opposed, parallel, planar surfaces; m pair of first and second internal electrodes arranged to be substantially parallel to said first and second planar surfaces, each of said pair of internal electrodes being separated by a respective dielectric layer to define a respective capacitive unit, m being a positive integer greater than or equal to one; n first external electrodes located on said first planar surface of said capacitor body, n being an integer greater than or equal to 1; p second external electrodes located on said first planar surface of said capacitor body, p being an integer greater than or equal to 1; n first connection portions arranged to electrically connect said first internal electrodes to each other and to a respective one of said first external electrodes, each of said first connection portions being electrically insulated from said second internal electrodes; and p second connection portions operable to electrically connect said second internal electrodes to each other and to a respective one of said second external electrodes, each of said second connection portions being electrically insulated from said first internal electrodes; wherein each of said external electrodes has a configuration for achieving a bump connection.
- 2. A capacitor, comprising:a capacitor body having first and second opposed, generally parallel, planar surfaces; m pair of first and second generally planar internal electrodes located in said capacitor body and extending generally parallel to said first and second planar surfaces, each of said pair of internal electrodes being separated by a respective dielectric layer to define a respective capacitive unit, m being a positive integer greater than or equal to 1; n first external electrodes located on said first planar surface, n being an integer greater than or equal to 1; q first connection portions each electrically connecting said first internal electrodes to each other and to at least one of said first external electrodes, said first connection portions being electrically insulated from said second internal electrodes; r second connection portions each electrically connecting said second internal electrodes to each other and to at least one of said second external electrodes, said first connection portions being electrically insulated from said first internal electrodes; each of said connection portions extending generally parallel to the other or said connection portions, a spacing between each of said connection portions as measured along a direction perpendicular to the direction in which said connection portions extend is about 2 mm or less; and each of said external electrodes has a configuration for achieving a bump connection.
- 3. A capacitor, comprising:a capacitor body; n generally planar first internal electrodes located in said capacitor body, n being an integer greater than or equal to one; m generally planar second internal electrodes located in said capacitor body, m being an integer greater than or equal to one, each said first internal electrodes being generally parallel to and facing a respective one of said second internal electrodes with a respective dielectric layer located therebetween; p first connection portions connecting each of said first electrodes to at least one first external electrode, p being an integer greater than or equal to one, each of said first connection portions extending in a direction generally perpendicular to said generally planar first electrodes and being electrically isolated from said second internal electrodes; q second connection portions connecting each of said second electrodes to at least one second external electrode, q being an integer greater than or equal to one, each of said second connection portions being electrically isolated from said first internal electrodes; each of said second connection portions extending generally parallel to an associated adjacent first connection portion to define a respective pair of connection portions, each pair of connection portions being coupled to at least one of said first external electrodes in such a manner that when current flows between said at least one first and at least one second external electrodes, it flows through said first connection portion of said pair in the opposite direction that it flows through said second connection portion of said pair; and each of said external electrodes has a configuration for achieving a bump connection.
- 4. A capacitor comprising:a capacitor body made of a dielectric material and having two major surfaces opposed to each other and side surfaces disposed between the two major surfaces and including a plurality of internal electrodes disposed in the dielectric material arranged to define a plurality of first polarity internal electrodes and a plurality of second polarity internal electrodes, each of the plurality of first polarity internal electrodes being electrically connected to each other inside of said capacitor body and each of the plurality of second polarity internal electrodes being electrically connected to each other inside of said capacitor body; and a plurality of external electrodes disposed on one of said two major surfaces of said capacitor body and being spaced from each other so as to define a plurality of first polarity external electrodes and a plurality of second polarity external electrodes, each of the plurality of first polarity internal electrodes being electrically connected to the plurality of first polarity external electrodes and each of the plurality of second polarity internal electrodes being electrically connected to the plurality of second polarity external electrodes.
- 5. The capacitor according to claim 4, further comprising first connecting members extending through the dielectric material of the capacitor body so as to electrically connect the plurality of first polarity internal electrodes to each other.
- 6. The capacitor according to claim 5, further comprising second connecting members extending through the dielectric material of the capacitor body so as to electrically connect the plurality of second polarity internal electrodes to each other.
- 7. The capacitor according to claim 6, wherein the first and second connecting members extend substantially perpendicular to the single surface of said capacitor body upon which the plurality of external electrodes are located.
- 8. The capacitor according to claim 4, wherein the plurality of external electrodes have a substantially rounded configuration and are arranged to achieve bump bonding connection.
- 9. The capacitor according to claim 4, wherein the dielectric material of the capacitor body includes dielectric material layers disposed between adjacent ones of the plurality of internal electrodes.
- 10. The capacitor according to claim 4, wherein the plurality of internal electrodes include a plurality of first internal electrode plates and a plurality of second internal electrode plates.
- 11. The capacitor according to claim 10, wherein each of the plurality of first internal electrode plates and each of the plurality of second internal electrode plates has a plurality of holes therein, a plurality of first connecting members extending through the holes in the plurality of first internal electrode plates to electrically connect the plurality of first internal electrode plates, and a plurality of second connecting members extending through the holes in the plurality of second internal electrode plates to electrically connect the plurality of second internal electrode plates.
- 12. The capacitor according to claim 10, wherein the plurality of first and second internal plates have a substantially rectangular plate configuration.
- 13. The capacitor according to claim 12, wherein the corners of the plurality of first and second internal plates are rounded.
- 14. The capacitor according to claim 4, wherein the capacitor body has a substantially rectangular shape including two major surfaces thereof and the single surface of the capacitor body upon which the external electrodes are disposed is one of the two major substantially rectangular surfaces of the capacitor body.
- 15. The capacitor according to claim 4, wherein the plurality of external electrodes include a plurality of first polarity external electrodes and a plurality of second polarity external electrodes, wherein each of the first polarity external electrodes is located adjacent to at least one of the second polarity external electrodes.
- 16. The capacitor according to claim 4, wherein the plurality of external electrodes include a plurality of first polarity external electrodes and a plurality of second polarity external electrodes, the first and second polarity external electrodes being arranged in a matrix on said single surface of said capacitor body defined by rows and columns including the first and second polarity external electrodes.
- 17. The capacitor according to claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of first internal electrode plates and each of the plurality of second internal electrode plates has a plurality of holes therein, a plurality of first connecting members extending through the holes in the plurality of first internal electrode plates to electrically connect the plurality of first internal electrode plates, and a plurality of second connecting members extending through the holes in the plurality of second internal electrode plates to electrically connect the plurality of second internal electrode plates, wherein each of the first and second connecting members extends to be exposed on said single surface of said capacitor body where the plurality of external electrodes are located.
- 18. The capacitor according to claim 17, wherein the first and second connecting members are electrically connected to respective ones of said plurality of external electrodes so as to connect respective ones of said plurality of external electrodes to respective ones of said plurality of internal electrodes.
- 19. The capacitor according to claim 17, wherein each of the first connecting members is spaced from an adjacent one of the second connecting members by about 2 mm or less.
- 20. The capacitor according to claim 4, wherein the plurality of external electrodes are arranged to cover less than an entire portion of said at least one surface of said capacitor body.
- 21. A capacitor comprising:a capacitor body including a plurality of dielectric layers and having two major surfaces opposed to each other and side surfaces disposed between the two major surfaces and a plurality of sets of one first internal electrode plate and one second internal electrode plate, the first and second internal electrode plates being separated by respective ones of the dielectric layers so as to define a plurality of first polarity internal electrodes and a plurality of second polarity internal electrodes, and a plurality of first connecting members arranged inside of said capacitor body and so as to electrically connect each of the plurality of first polarity internal electrodes to each other and a plurality of second connecting members arranged inside of said capacitor body and so as to electrically connect each of the plurality of second polarity internal electrodes to each other, the plurality of first and second connecting members being arranged to be exposed at one of said two major surfaces of said capacitor body; and a plurality of external electrodes arranged to be electrically connected to respective ones of said plurality of first and second connecting members so as to define a plurality of first polarity external electrodes and a plurality of second polarity external electrodes.
- 22. The capacitor according to claim 21, wherein said plurality of external electrodes are arranged only on said single common exterior surface of said capacitor body.
- 23. The capacitor according to claim 22, wherein the plurality of external electrodes include a plurality of first polarity external electrodes and a plurality of second polarity external electrodes, the first and second polarity external electrodes being arranged in a matrix on said single common exterior surface of said capacitor body defined by rows and columns including the first and second polarity external electrodes.
- 24. The capacitor according to claim 21, wherein the first and second connecting members extend substantially perpendicular to the single common exterior surface of said capacitor body upon which the plurality of external electrodes are located.
- 25. The capacitor according to claim 21, wherein the plurality of external electrodes have a substantially rounded configuration and are arranged to achieve bump bonding connection.
- 26. The capacitor according to claim 21, wherein each of the plurality of first internal electrode plates and each of the plurality of second internal electrode plates has a plurality of holes therein, the plurality of first connecting members extending through the holes in the plurality of first internal electrode plates to electrically connect the plurality of first internal electrode plates, and the plurality of second connecting members extending through the holes in the plurality of second internal electrode plates to electrically connect the plurality of second internal electrode plates.
- 27. The capacitor according to claim 21, wherein the plurality of first and second internal plates have a substantially rectangular plate configuration.
- 28. The capacitor according to claim 27, wherein the corners of the plurality of first and second internal plates are rounded.
- 29. The capacitor according to claim 21, wherein the capacitor body has a substantially rectangular shape including two major surfaces thereof and the single common exterior surface of the capacitor body upon which the external electrodes are disposed is one of the two major substantially rectangular surfaces of the capacitor body.
- 30. The capacitor according to claim 21, wherein each of the first polarity external electrodes is located adjacent to at least one of the second polarity external electrodes.
- 31. The capacitor according to claim 24, wherein each of the first connecting members is spaced from an adjacent one of the second connecting members by about 2 mm or less.
- 32. The capacitor according to claim 21, wherein the plurality of external electrodes are arranged to cover less than an entire portion of said at least one surface of said capacitor body.
