Claims
- 1. A method for grinding a workpiece which comprises carrying said workpiece across a first grinding wheel to grind a surface of said workpiece, and thereafter moving said workpiece inwardly to a second grinding wheel carried in coaxial relation with said first grinding wheel, and having a grinding surface which occupies a different plane from that of said first grinding wheel, and presenting a portion of said workpiece for grinding to said second grinding wheel, whereby said portion is ground by said second wheel to a different plane from other workpiece portions ground by said first grinding wheel, said workpiece passing across said first and second grinding wheels in a diametric or chordal path.
- 2. The method of claim 1 in which said workpiece is an E-core having a central arm and a pair of outer arms, said second grinding wheel being of less diameter at its grinding surface than the distance between each pair of outer arms, said method including passing said E-core across the second grinding wheel in such manner that the second grinding wheel engages only the central arm.
- 3. The method of claim 1 in which said first grinding wheel defines an inner rim that is higher than its outer rim, whereby final sizing of the parts ground thereon can be performed by said inner rim.
- 4. A method for grinding a workpiece which comprises carrying said workpiece across a first grinding wheel to grind a surface of said workpiece, said workpiece being an E-core having a central arm and a pair of outer arms, said central grinding wheel being of less diameter at its grinding surface than the distance between each pair of outer arms, and thereafter passing said E-core inwardly to a second grinding wheel carried in coaxial relation with said first grinding wheel, said E-core moving in such a manner that the second grinding wheel engages only the central arm, said second grinding wheel having a grinding surface which occupies a higher plane from that of said first grinding wheel, said workpiece moving across said first and second grinding wheels in a diametric or chordal path, whereby said central arm of the E-core is ground by said second wheel to a different plane at its end from the plane of the ends of said pair of outer arms.
- 5. The method of claim 4 in which said first grinding wheel defines an inner rim that is higher than its outer rim, whereby final sizing of parts ground thereon can be performed by said inner rim.
- 6. A method for grinding a workpiece which comprises an E-core having a central arm and a pair of outer arms, which method comprises carrying said workiece across a first grinding wheel to grind a surface of said workpiece, and thereafter moving said workpiece inwardly to a second grinding wheel carried in coaxial relation with said first grinding wheel and having a grinding surface which occupies a different plane from that of said first grinding wheel, said second grinding wheel being of less diameter at its grinding surface than the distance between each pair of outer arms, said method including passing said E-core across the second grinding wheel in such manner that the second grinding wheel engages only the central arm, whereby said portion is ground by said second wheel to a different plane from other workpiece portions ground by said first grinding wheel.
- 7. A method for grinding a workpiece which comprises carrying said workpiece across a first grinding wheel to grind the surface of said workpiece, said first grinding wheel defining an inner rim that is higher than its outer rim, whereby final sizing of parts ground thereon can be performed by said inner rim, and thereafter moving said workpiece inwardly to a second grinding wheel carried in coaxial relation with said first grinding wheel and having a grinding surface which occupies a different plane from that of said first grinding wheel, whereby said portion is ground by said second wheel to a different plane from other workpiece portions ground by said first grinding wheel.
