Claims
- 1. A multiple block lifting device for lifting blocks having a main hole formed therein, said device comprising:
a. a support bar; b. at least two block gripping means spaced apart and pivotally attached to said support bar, said gripping means being able to be fit into said hole formed on said blocks; c. a center plate selectively connected to a lifting cable; and, d. a linking arm disposed between said center plate and each block gripping means, whereby when said block gripping means is inserted into a main hole on a block and said center plate is lifted, said linking arm used to engage and disengage said block gripping means from a block to connect and disconnect the device from a block.
- 2. The multiple block lifting device as recited in claim 1, wherein said support bar is made of two longitudinally aligned short bar sections connected together to adjust the overall length of said support bar.
- 3. The multiple block lifting device as recited in claim 1, wherein said each block gripping means includes an insert member perpendicularly aligned and extending downward from said support bar, said insert member fits into a vertically aligned hole formed on a block, an actuator arm extending above said support bar and pivotally attached at one end to said insert member and at an opposite end to said linking arm.
- 4. The multiple block lifting device as recited in claim 1, wherein said actuator arm includes a passageway formed therein through which an outer section of said support bar may extend.
- 5. The multiple block lifting device as recited in claim 1, further including a release handle attached to said actuator arms to forcibly move said actuator arm to a disengaged position from a block when said insert member is inserted into a hole formed on a block.
- 6. The multiple block lifting device as recited in claim 1, further including a shackle used to connect said cable to said center plate.
- 7. A multiple block lifting device for lifting blocks having a main hole formed therein, said device comprising:
a. a support bar; b. at least two block gripping means spaced apart and pivotally attached to said support bar, said gripping means being able to be fit into said hole formed on said blocks said each block gripping means including an insert member perpendicularly aligned and extending downward from said support bar, said insert member being able to fit into a vertically aligned hole formed on a block, an actuator arm extending above said support bar and pivotally attached at one end to said insert member and at an opposite end to said linking arm; c. a release handle coupled to each block gripping means; d. a center plate selectively connected to a lifting cable; and, e a linking arm disposed between said center plate and each block gripping means, whereby when said block gripping means is inserted into a main hole on a block and said center plate is lifted, said linking arm being used to engage and disengage said block gripping means from a block to connect and disconnect the device from a block.
- 8. The multiple block lifting device as recited in claim 7, wherein said support bar is made of two longitudinally aligned short bar sections connected together to adjust the overall length of said support bar.
- 9. The multiple block lifting device as recited in claim 7, wherein said actuator arm includes a passageway formed therein through which an outer section of said support bar may extend.
- 10. The multiple block lifting device as recited in claim 7, further including a shackle used to connect said cable to said center plate.
- 11. A method for lifting blocks with center holes, aligned side-by-side and facing the same direction on a pallet, comprising the following steps:
a. selecting a multiple block lifting device including a support bar; at least two block gripping means spaced apart and pivotally attached to said support bar, said gripping means being able to be fit into said hole formed on said blocks each said block gripping means including an insert member perpendicularly aligned and extending downward from said support bar, said insert member being able to fit into said vertically aligned hole formed on a block, an actuator arm extending above said support bar and pivotally attached at one end to said insert member and at an opposite end to said linking arm, a release handle coupled to each said block gripping means, a center plate selectively connected to a lifting cable, and a linking arm disposed between said center plate and each block gripping means, whereby when said block gripping means is inserted into a main hole on a block and said center plate is lifted, said linking arm used to engage and disengage said block gripping means from a block to connect and disconnect said device; b. attaching said cable to lifting equipment; c. positioning said insert members over said center holes to two adjacent blocks; d. lowering said device until said insert members are fully extended in to said center holes; e. lifting said device so that said actuator arms are forced outward to engage the inside surface of said blocks; f. positioning said blocks in a desired location; and, g. lowering the blocks to so that said actuator arms are released from said block.
