Claims
- 1. A method of preparing a useful substance from raw materials comprising:providing a metal containing substance; converting the metal-containing substance into a non-stoichiometric non-equilibrium crystalline nanostructured material; processing the nanostructured material into a catalyst; and reacting the raw materials into the useful substances in the presence of the catalyst.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the nanostructured material comprises an oxide.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the nanostructured material has a domain size less than 100 nm.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the nanostructured material comprises an alloy.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the useful substance comprises a pharmaceutical.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein the useful substance comprises a polymer.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein the useful substance comprises a petrochemical.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein the useful substance comprises hydrogen.
