Claims
- 1. A peel apart photosensitive element comprising in order from top to bottom, (1) a strippable cover sheet comprised of a polymeric film which is transparent to actinic radiation, (2) a photoadherent layer containing a colorant and comprising a photohardenable material with ethylenically unsaturated or benzophenone type groups, (3) a nonphotosensitive organic contiguous layer, and (4) a sheet support, wherein, after exposure to actinic radiation, the peel force required to remove the cover sheet (1) with the exposed photoadherent layer (2) thereon from the contiguous layer (3) is at least four times the peel force required to remove the cover sheet (1) from an unexposed photoadherent layer (2).
- 2. An element according to claim 1, after imagewise exposure and stripping of the cover sheet (1), the cover sheet bears on its surface the colored exposed image areas complementary to the image areas remaining on the contiguous layer.
- 3. An overlay which comprises, in combination, at least two elements according to claim 2, in register with each other, characterized that each element has been exposed through a different color separation negative and the respective photoadherent layers have been colored in a spectral region corresponding to the color separation negative used for the exposure.
- 4. An overlay according to claim 3 wherein the elements and colored separation negatives correspond, respectively, to black, yellow, magenta and cyan.
- 5. An element according to claim 1 wherein the contiguous layer (3) is colorless.
- 6. An element according to claim 1 wherein the photoadherent layer (2) is comprised of an ethylenically unsaturated photohardenable material selected from photopolymerizable, photocrosslinkable, photodimerizable compositions and combinations thereof.
- 7. An element according to claim 1 wherein the contiguous layer (3) is comprised of an elastomeric material.
- 8. An element according to claim 1 wherein the strippable cover sheet (1) is a polymeric film which is surface treated by electrostatic discharge or flame treatment.
- 9. An element according to claim 1 wherein the sheet support (4) is contiguous to layer (3) and is taken from the group consisting of a film support and a film support bearing an auxiliary layer.
- 10. An element according to claim 6 wherein the photohardenable layer (2) is a nontacky photopolymerizable layer comprised of a macromolecular organic polymeric binder, an organic compound having at least one terminal ethylenic group capable of free radical initiated, chain propagated addition polymerization, and a free radical generating addition polymerization photoinitiating system activatable by actinic radiation.
- 11. An element according to claim 1 wherein the contiguous layer (3) contains an added colorant.
- 12. An element according to claim 9 wherein the auxiliary layer is interposed between contiguous layer (3) and sheet support (4).
- 13. An element according to claim 12 wherein the auxiliary layer is a release layer.
- 14. An element according to claim 12 wherein the auxiliary layer is an anchoring layer.
- 15. An element according to claim 12 wherein the auxiliary layer is thermoplastic.
