Claims
- 1. A composition in the form of a food or beverage, comprising an edible substance carrier and 0.5% w/w % or more, on a dry solid basis, of a non-reducing oligosaccharide of the formula: ##STR5## where "n" and "m" are 0 or more integers, and their total number (n+m) is at least 1.
- 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein said non-reducing oligosaccharide is one or more members selected from the group consisting of .beta.-D-maltosyl .alpha.-D-glucoside, .alpha.-D-maltosyl .beta.-D-glucoside, .beta.-D-maltotriosyl .alpha.-D-Glucoside, .alpha.-D-maltotriosyl .beta.-D-glucoside and .beta.-D-maltosyl .alpha.-D-maltoside.
- 3. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically active agent and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, further comprising 0.5% w/w % or more, on a dry solid basis, of a non-reducing oligosaccharide of the formula: ##STR6## where "n" and "m" are 0 or more integers, and their total number (n+m) is at least 1.
- 4. A composition in the form of a food or beverage, a cosmetic or a pharmaceutical, which comprises a carrier and a non-reducing oligosaccharide, wherein said carrier is a food or beverage component, a cosmetic component or a pharmaceutical excipient, wherein said non-reducing oligosaccharide is present in an amount of 0.5 w/w % or more on a dry solid basis, and is of the formula: ##STR7## where "n" and "m" are 0 or more integers, and their total number (n+m) is at least 1.
- 5. The composition of claim 3, wherein said non-reducing oligosaccharide is one or more members selected from the group consisting of .beta.-D-maltosyl .alpha.-D-glucoside, .alpha.-D-maltosyl .beta.-D-glucoside, .beta.-D-maltotriosyl .alpha.-D-glucoside, .alpha.-D-maltotriosyl .beta.-D-glucoside and .beta.-D-maltosyl .alpha.-D-maltoside.
- 6. The composition of claim 4, wherein said non-reducing oligosaccharide is one or more members selected from the group consisting of .beta.-D-maltosyl .alpha.-D-glucoside, .alpha.-D-maltosyl .beta.-D-glucoside, .beta.-D-maltotriosyl .alpha.-D-glucoside, .alpha.-D-maltotriosyl .beta.-D-glucoside and .beta.-D-maltosyl .alpha.-D-maltoside.
