Claims
- 1. A method of increasing transcription of an endogenous gene in a cell comprising:
contacting a cell comprising an endogenous gene controlled by an (AATT)n repeat element with a palindromic element binding factor (PABF)-containing composition; and detecting increased transcription of said endogenous gene in said cell.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said (AATT)n repeat element consists of the sequence (AATT)n and n is greater than or equal to 2.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein said cell is selected from the group consisting of: a plant cell, an animal cell, a bacterial cell, and a fungal cell.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein said PABF-containing composition comprises an expression vector comprising an isolated polynucleotide that encodes a PABF polypeptide.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein said PABF-containing composition comprises a PABF polypeptide.
- 6. The method of claim 4, wherein said (AATT)n repeat element consists of the sequence (AATT)n and n is greater than or equal to 4.
- 7. The method of claim 4, wherein said polynucleotide comprises the polynucletoide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2.
- 8. A method of increasing transcription of an exogenous gene comprising:
providing a vector comprising an (AATT)n repeat element functionally linked to a promoter and an exogenous gene; and contacting said vector with a palindromic element binding factor (PABF)-containing composition, whereby transcription from said promoter is increased relative to transcription from a vector lacking said (AATT)n repeat element.
- 9. The method of claim 8, further comprising providing said vector to a cell.
- 10. The method of claim 8, wherein said (AATT)n repeat element consists of the sequence (AATT)n and n is greater than or equal to 2.
- 11. The method of claim 8, wherein said cell is selected from the group consisting of a plant cell, an animal cell, a bacterial cell, and a fungal cell.
- 12. The method of claim 8, wherein said gene encodes for proteins selected from the group consisting of proteins for early flowering in plants, proteins conferring resistance to metals, proteins conferring resistance to herbicides, proteins conferring resistance to pesticides, proteins conferring resistance to fingi, proteins conferring resistance to bacteria, proteins conferring resistance to viruses, proteins conferring resistance to insects, and proteins conferring resistance to nematodes.
- 13. The method of claim 9, wherein said PABF-containing composition comprises an expression vector comprising an isolated polynucleotide that encodes a PABF polypeptide.
- 14. The method of claim 13, wherein n is ≧2.
- 15. The method of claim 13, wherein said polynucleotide comprises the polynucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:2.
- 16. The method of claim 13, wherein said PABF-containing composition comprises a PABF polypeptide.
