Claims
- 1. An optical recording medium of the heat mode type comprising a substrate having deposited thereon a resin free recording layer and comprising at least one laser light absorbing dye mixed with at least one quencher, and having a thickness in the range of from 0.03 to 2 um, said dye being represented by the formula I:
- .phi..sup.+ -L=.psi.(x-).sub.m (I)
- wherein .phi. and .psi. independently of each other denote an indole ring, thiazole ring, an oxazole ring; a selenazole ring, an imidazole ring or a pyridine ring which may have at least one aromatic ring condensed thereto, L denotes a methine chain for formation of a mono-, di-, tri- or tetra-cyanine dye, X- denotes an anion, and m denotes 0 or 1.
- 2. An optical recording medium according to claim 1, wherein said quencher is incorporated in an amount of from 0.05 to 12 moles per mole of said dye.
- 3. An optical recording medium according to claim 1, wherein said quencher is a transition metal chelate compound.
- 4. An optical recording medium according to claim 1, wherein L is selected from the class consisting of the groups represented by the following formulae: ##STR87## wherein Y is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, cycloalkyl, dimethyl amino, diphenyl amino, methylphenyl amino, morpholino, imidazolidine, ethoxycarbonyl, piperazine, alkylcarbonyloxy, methylthio, halogen atoms, cyano and nitro.
- 5. An optical recording medium according to claim 1 wherein .phi. and .psi. each denote a group represented by the formulae: ##STR88## wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.11 each denote a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl group; R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 each denote an alkyl or aryl group; R.sub.8 denotes an alkyl, aryl, heterocyclic, hydrogen, halogen, alkylthio, alkylhydroxycarbonyl, or carboxylic group or halogen, p, q, r, and s when associated with R.sub.8 may be the same or different and denote an integer of 0 to 4; R.sup.1, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.6', R.sup.7, R.sup.8, R.sup.9 and R.sup.10 which may be the same or different denote alkyl, aryl, heterocyclic, halogen, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylhydroxycarbonyl, or carboxylic; and p, s, t, u, u', v, w, x, y and z each denote the integer 0 or at least 1.
- 6. An optical recording medium according to claim 1 wherein the recording layer contains from about 0.05 to about 1.2 moles of at least one added quencher per mole of dye.
- 7. An optical recording medium according to claim 1 wherein the anion is selected from the group consisting of iodide, bromide, perchlorate, boron tetrafluoride, p-chlorobenzene sulfonate and p-methylbenzene sulfonate.
