Claims
- 1. An optical recording medium of the heat mode type comprising a substrate having deposited thereon a recording layer comprising at least one laser light absorbing dye and having a thickness in the range of from 0.03 to 2 .mu.m, said dye being represented by the general formula III: ##STR87## wherein Q and Q' each denote a condensed aromatic ring; R.sub.1 and R1' each denote a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having more than four carbon atoms, wherein the substituents are selected from the group consisting of alkylcarbonyloxy, hydroxy, carboxy and alkyloxycarbonyl; R.sub.2', R.sub.2', R.sub.3 and R.sub.3' each denote an alkyl group or an aryl group; L' denotes a methine chain for the formation of mono-, di-, tri- or tetracarbocyanine; X.sup.- denotes an anion; and m denotes 0 or 1.
- 2. An optical recording medium according to claim 1, wherein the condensed aromatic ring, which may be the same or different, are represented by the following formulae V through VIII: ##STR88## wherein R.sub.5 denotes a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having more than four carbon atoms, wherein the substituents are selected from the group consisting of alkylcarbonyloxy, hydroxy, carboxy and alkoxycarbonyl; R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 each denote an alkyl or aryl group; R.sub.8 denotes an alkyl, aryl, heterocyclic, hydrogen, halogen, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylhydroxycarbonyl or carboxy; and p, q, r and s which may be the same or different each denote an integer from 0 to 4.
- 3. An optical recording medium according to claim 1 or 2, wherein L is selected from the class consisting of the groups represented by the following formulae X to XX, ##STR89## wherein Y is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, cycloalkyl, dimethyl amino, diphenyl amino, methylphenyl amino, morpholino, imidazolidine, ethoxycarbonyl, piperazine, alkylcarbonyloxy, methylthio, halogen, cyano and nitro.
- 4. An optical recording medium according to claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.1' each denote a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 5 to 19 carbon atoms, wherein the substituents are selected from the group consisting of alkylcarbonyloxy, hydroxy, carboxy and alkylcarbonyloxy.
