Claims
- 1. A communication system message receiving device for portable applications having selectively actuatable annunciation operational characteristics and features comprising:
- a communication receiver for detecting encoded signals transmitted over a communication channel;
- a decoder, coupled to said receiver and responsive to detected encoded signals from said receiver to process said detected signals in real time;
- a code memory containing predetermined sequence information and designating information, said designating information being unrelated to said predetermined sequence information for designating the operational characteristics and features of the messages receiving device;
- feature actuating means, coupled to said code memory and responsive to said designating information in said code memory for producing an actuation signal for actuating said annunciation operational characteristics and features of the device;
- comparison means coupled to said decoder and said code memory for determining if said detected signals correlate with said predetermined sequence information, said comparison means producing a control signal if said signals correlate with said information; and
- annunciation means coupled to said comparison means and said feature actuating means and responsive to said control signal and said actuation signal for signalling the user of the reception of a message,
- whereby the actuation of annunciation characteristics and features of the device are designated by information contained in the code memory.
- 2. The message receiving device of claim 1 wherein said decoder is implemented in CMOS.
- 3. The message receiving device of claim 1 further including multi-pin socket means for coupling said code memory to said decoder thereby enabling easy removal and changing of said code memory.
- 4. The message receiving device of claim 3 wherein said decoder is implemented in CMOS.
- 5. The message receiving device of claim 1 wherein said actuating means is further coupled to said annunciation means to actuate the operational characteristics of said annunciation means.
- 6. The message receiving device of claim 5 further including multi-pin socket means for coupling said code memory to said decoder thereby enabling easy removal and changing of said code memory.
- 7. The message receiving device of claim 6 wherein said decoder is implemented in CMOS.
- 8. A communication system message receiving device for portable applications having selectively actuable annunication operational characteristics and features comprising:
- a communication receiver for detecting encoded signals transmitted over a communication channel;
- a microcomputer, including a microprocessor interconnected with a read-only memory responsive to detected encoded signals from said receiver to process said detected signals in real time;
- a code memory containing predetermined sequence information and desginating information, said designating information being unrelated to said predetermined sequence information for designating the annunciation operational characteristics and features of the message receiving device;
- feature actuating means coupled to said code memory and responsive to said designating information in said code memory for producing an actuation signal for actuating said annunciation operational characteristics and features of the device;
- said microcomputer including comparison means for determining if said detected encoded signals correlate with said predetermined sequence information, said comparision means producing a control signal if said signals correlate with said information; and
- annuniciation means coupled to said microcomputer and said feature actuation means and responsive to said control signal and said actuation signal for signalling the user of the reception of a message,
- whereby the actuation of annunciation characteristics and features of the device are designated by information contained in the code memory.
- 9. The message receiving device of claim 8 further including multi-pin socket means for coupling said code memory to said microcomputer thereby enabling easy removal and changing of said code memory.
- 10. The message receiving device of claim 1 wherein said microcomputer is implemented in CMOS.
- 11. The message receiving device of claim 8 wherein said code memory is completely contained in and part of said read-only memory.
- 12. The message receiving device of claim 11 wherein said microcomputer is implemented in CMOS.
