Claims
- 1. A fastening system comprising a fastener and a plurality of parts to be fastened together along predetermined surfaces thereof, each of said parts having an arcuate segment of a raceway groove formed therein with internal raceway contours such that said arcuate raceways form a continuous groove when said parts are brought together with said predetermined surfaces in abutment, said fastener comprising a plurality of arcuate section members, each of said fastener section members having external contours and dimensions which are complementary to and rotatably movable in the contours and dimensions of the arcuate raceway in a corresponding one of said parts with the rotation movement being arcuate about the origin or center of the groove, whereby all arcuate section members form a complete ring rotatably movable in said continuous groove when said parts are brought together, the cross sections of said raceway and section members being structured with a key flange to fasten together the parts and secure them against mutual motion in any direction despite fairly loose tolerances between said fasteners and raceways, wherein at least one of said parts and one of said arcuate section members have a passageway formed therein and disposed relative to each other so that passageways abut together in alignment when the parts are fastened together by rotation of said arcuate members.
- 2. The fastening system of claim 1 wherein the passageway in said one arcuate member is shaped and disposed to seal off said passageway when said fastener is moved into a particular position.
- 3. The fastening system of claim 2 wherein the passageway is contoured to guide microwaves.
- 4. A fastening system comprising first and second mating fixed parts each having a segment of an arcuate guideway formed therein with the two guideway segments coming together to form a single composite guideway when the mating fixed parts are brought together, said composite guideway being shaped with a locking key flange contour, said first and second movable fastener segments fitting into the first and second fixed parts respectively, and means for rotating said fastener segments with portions thereof sliding into said arcuate guideways of the adjacent fixed parts when in juxtasposition with the two movable parts forming a composite rotatable body with a locking key flange lying in the guideways in both the first and second parts, wherein each of the first and second fixed parts has a passageway and at least one of the fastener segments has a mating passageway which interconnects the passageways through the first and second fixed parts when the two fixed parts are fastened together by the movable parts.
- 5. A fastening system comprising a pair of semi-cylindrical fastener body parts which may be brought together in face-to-face relationship to form a cylindrical fastener which is symmetrical about a center axis of rotation, said cylinder having a predetermined height measured along said axis, at least one passageway through at least one of said fastener body parts, and a plurality of object parts to be fastened together along predetermined surfaces thereof, at least one passageway through at least one of said object parts, each object part having an arcuate semi-cylindrical raceway formed therein with internal raceway contours which are exactly complementary to the external contours on said fastener body parts, the raceways in said object parts fitting together to form a single composite cylindrical raceway when said object parts are brought together in a mating face-to-face relationship, the passageways in said fastener body parts and in said object parts being positioned to form a continuously open passage when said fastener is in a first position and a blocked passage when said fastener is in a second position, whereby said two body parts of said fastener span and join said semi-circular raceways to securely interconnect said two object parts when said fastener is partially rotated to said first position and do not span or join said raceways to release said two object parts when said fastener is partially rotated to said second position.
- 6. The fastening system of claim 5 wherein the fastener body parts comprise first and second mutually perpendicular annular key flanges integrally formed on each body part adjacent one end thereof, each of said flanges having a thickness which is much less than said height, said first annular key flange extending away from said body perpendicularly with respect to said axis, and said second annular key flange extends parallel to said axis.
- 7. The fastening system of claim 5 and sealing means between said fastener body parts and said object parts for sealing said passage in both said open passage and said blocked passage positions.
- 8. The fastening system of claim 5 and means for limiting the rotating positions of said fastener body parts at both said first and said second positions.
- 9. The fastening system of claim 5 wherein there is a passageway in each of said fastener body parts and in each of said object parts.
- 10. The fastening system of claim 9 and passage means interconnecting the passageways in each of said fastener body parts.
- 11. A fastening system comprising first and second fastener halves, each of said halves being a solid of revolution formed about a circular plane surface, said halves coming together in face-to-face relationship to form a generally O-shaped solid having a generally circular cross section in any plane between the two sides of the O-shaped solid, the circular plane surfaces of said two halves being substantially identical in shape and size, means for keying said two halves together so that they rotate as a unit, and first and second object parts respectively containing mating socket halves which come together to form a generally O-shaped cavity also having a generally circular cross section in any plane between the two sides of the O-shaped cavity, said sockets having internal contours which are substantially complementary to the external contours of the corresponding fastener half, and complementary passageways formed in at least one fastener half and at least one of the object parts.
- 12. A fastening system comprising first and second fastener halves, each of said halves being a solid of revolution formed about a circular plane surface, the circular plane surfaces of said two halves being substantially identical in shape and size, means for keying said two halves together so that they rotate as a unit, first and second object parts respectively containing mating sockets having internal contours which are substantially complementary to the external contours of the corresponding fastener half, complementary passageways formed in at least one fastener half and at least one of the object parts, and handle means attached to one of said halves and extending through the mating socket, whereby a turning of said handle rotates said one half, and that half rotates the other half via said keying means.
- 13. The fastening system of claim 11 and O-ring means for sealing said complementary passageways.
