Claims
- 1. A pendulous assembly for use in an accelerometer or other such device including an arrangement for sensing forces acting on the device in a particular direction, said assembly comprising:
- (a) a proofmass;
- (b) means forming part of said sensing arrangement and carried by or in direct engagement with said proofmass for specifically sensing said forces acting on said proofmass; and
- (c) means supporting one end of said proofmass for pivotal movement about a given axis back and forth through a resting plane which contains said proofmass when the proofmass is at rest in the absence of any of said forces, said supporting means including
- (i) an isolation bridge support and means for mounting the isolation bridge support to a main support forming part of the force sensing device,
- (ii) an arrangement of isolation bridges,
- (iii) isolation bridge flexure means connecting said arrangement of isolation bridges with a section of said isolation bridge support for pivotal movement back and forth about said given axis; and
- (iv) proofmass flexure means connecting said proofmass with said arrangement of isolation bridges for pivotal movement of said proofmass back and forth about said given axis.
- 2. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said isolation bridge support includes a main portion including said mounting means and a secondary section connected to said isolation bridges by said isolation bridge flexure means, said secondary section being generally T-shaped in configuration.
- 3. A pendulous assembly for use in an accelerometer or other such device including an arrangement for sensing forces acting on the device in a particular direction, said assembly comprising:
- (a) a proofmass;
- (b) means forming part of said sensing arrangement and carried by or in direct engagement with said proofmass for specifically sensing said forces acting on said proofmass;
- (c) means supporting one end of said proofmass for pivotal movement about a given axis back and forth through a resting plane which contains said proofmass when the proofmass is at rest in the absence of any of said forces, said supporting means including
- (i) an isolation bridge support and means for mounting the isolation bridge support to a main support forming part of the force sensing device,
- (ii) at least one isolation bridge;
- (iii) isolation bridge flexure means connecting said at least one isolation bridge with a section of said isolation bridge support for pivotal movement back and forth about a given axis; and
- (iv) proofmass flexure means connecting said proofmass with said isolation bridge for pivotal movement of said proofmass back and forth about said given axis; and
- (d) electrically conductive leads located on and extending between said proofmass and said isolation bridge support means and across said isolation bridge flexure means and said proofmass flexure means for carrying electrical signals for certain components on said proofmass to cooperating components external of the proofmass assembly, said leads and said flexure means having different coefficients of thermal expansion and being dimensioned to effect a cancellation of stresses in the isolation bridge.
- 4. A pendulous assembly for use in an accelerometer or other such device including an arrangement for sensing forces acting on the device in a particular direction, said assembly comprising:
- (a) a proofmass;
- (b) means forming part of said sensing arrangement and carried by or in direct engagement with said proofmass for specifically sensing said forces acting on said proofmass;
- (c) means supporting one end of said proofmass for pivotal movement about a given axis back and forth through a resting plane which contains said proofmass when the proofmass is at rest in the absence of any of said forces, said supporting means including
- (i) an isolation bridge support and means for mounting the isolation bridge support to a main support forming part of the force sensing device,
- (ii) at least one isolation bridge;
- (iii) isolation bridge flexure means connecting said at least one isolation bridge with a section of said isolation bridge support for pivotal movement back and forth about a given axis; and
- (iv) proofmass flexure means connecting said proofmass with said isolation bridge for pivotal movement of said proofmass back and forth about said given axis, said proofmass flexure means extending parallel with and being equal in length to said isolation bridge flexure means; and
- (d) electrically conductive leads located on and extending between said proofmass and said isolation bridge support means and across said isolation bridge flexure means and said proofmass flexure means in straight lines parallel with the flexure means for carrying electrical signals between certain components on said proofmass and cooperating components external of the proofmass assembly, said leads and said flexure means having different coefficients of thermal expansion and having widths such that the ratio of the widths of the proofmass flexure means and the isolation bridge flexure means is equal to the ratio of the widths of the leads across the proofmass flexure means and the leads across the isolation bridge flexure means.
