Claims
- 1. A perimeter monitoring system comprising:a. a first and a second mounting apparatus each comprising a tube comprising an axial interior slot and a pivot; b. a reflector assembly positioned to receive a beam of light along a segment of a perimeter of an area to be monitored and to provide a returned beam, the reflector assembly comprising a reflector secured to the pivot of the first mounting apparatus; and c. a monitor comprising: (1) an enclosure; and (2) a circuit board comprising an emitter that provides the beam of light and a detector that provides a signal when an interruption of the returned beam is detected, wherein: (a) the circuit board is mounted in the slot of the second mounting apparatus; and (b) the pivot of the second mounting apparatus is secured to the enclosure; and (3) an alarm controller that activates an alarm in response to the signal.
- 2. The system of claim 1 wherein each pivot comprises a respective ball joint comprising a ball and a socket.
- 3. The system of claim 2 wherein each tube further comprises a respective socket of the respective ball joint.
- 4. The system of claim 2 wherein each ball is urged against the respective socket by a respective ring for fixing the position of the respective tube.
- 5. The system of claim 4 wherein each ring and each tube comprises a respective screw thread for urging the respective ball against the respective socket.
- 6. The system of claim 2 wherein each ball joint comprises a void that facilitates compression of the respective ball in the respective socket.
- 7. The system of claim 1 wherein each tube further comprises a circular interior cross section.
- 8. The system of claim 1 wherein each tube further comprises a flanged plate extending outward from the tube for mounting the tube onto a provided surface.
- 9. A mounting apparatus for adjustably mounting components of a perimeter monitoring system, the mounting apparatus comprising:(1) a tubular housing for supporting a base and alternatively for supporting a provided monitor inside the housing; (2) a pivot mechanism coupled, on a first side thereof, to the housing; and (3) the base, coupled to a second side of the pivot mechanism, for mounting a provided reflector when the housing supports the base and alternatively for supporting the housing when the housing supports the provided monitor.
- 10. The mounting apparatus according to claim 9, wherein the housing comprises a slot disposed axially along an interior portion of the housing.
- 11. The mounting apparatus according to claim 9, wherein the pivot mechanism comprises a ball joint that includes a ball, a recess configured to receive the ball, and a ring to restrict movement of the ball in the recess.
- 12. The mounting apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the ball is attached to the base and the recess is formed in the housing.
- 13. A perimeter monitoring system component comprising:a monitor including an emitter and a detector, wherein the emitter is operative to emit a beam of light and wherein the detector is operative to provide a signal when an interruption of a returned beam of light is detected; and the mounting apparatus of claim 9 wherein the housing supports the monitor.
