Claims
- 1. A photoconductive element comprising an electrically conductive support, an electrical barrier layer disposed over said electrically conductive support, and disposed over ad barrier layer, a charge generation layer capable of generating positive charge carriers when exposed to actinic radiation, said barrier layer comprising a polyamide-co-imide polymer that includes an aromatic tetracarbonylbisimide group, and which polymer corresponds to the formula:
- 2. The photoconductive element of claim 1 wherein x is from about 0.1 to about 0.8.
- 3. The photoconductive element of claim 1 wherein x is from about 0.25 to about 0.75.
- 4. The photoconductive element of claim 1 wherein x is from about 0.5 to about 0.75.
- 5. The photoconductive element of claim 1 wherein the electrically conductive support comprises a flexible material having a layer of metal disposed thereon.
- 6. The photoconductive element of claim 5 wherein the metal is nickel.
- 7. The photoconductive element of claim 1 wherein the condensation polymer further comprises alkyleneoxy repeat groups having from about 2 to about 36 carbon atoms.
- 8. The photoconductive element of claim 7 wherein the alkyleneoxy repeat groups are derived by condensation of a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of less than about 600.
- 9. The photoconductive element of claim 7 wherein the alkyleneoxy repeat groups are derived by condensation of a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of less than about 300.
- 10. The photoconductive element of claim 7 wherein the alkyleneoxy repeat units are present in an amount of up to about 95 mol % based on total diamine content.
- 11. The photoconductive element of claim 7 wherein the alkyleneoxy repeat units are present in an amount of from about 0.05 mol % to about 0.75 mol % based on total diamine content.
- 12. The photoconductive element of claim 7 wherein the alkyleneoxy repeat units are present in an amount of from about 0.05 mol % to about 0.5 mol % based on total diamine content.
- 13. The photoconductive element of claim 1 wherein the condensation polymer is substantially insoluble in a solvent employed for coating the charge generation layer onto the barrier layer.
- 14. The photoconductive element of claim 1 wherein the barrier layer has a thickness of greater than about 1 micron.
- 15. The photoconductive element of claim 1 wherein the barrier layer has a thickness of greater than 1.2 microns.
- 16. The photoconductive element of claim 4 wherein the barrier layer has a thickness of greater than about 2 microns.
- 17. The photoconductive element of claim 4 wherein the barrier layer has a thickness of greater than about 3 microns.
- 18. The photoconductive element of claim 4 wherein the barrier layer has a thickness of greater than about 4 microns.
- 19. The photoconductive element of claim 4 wherein the condensation polymer is poly[piperazine-co 1,3,3-trimethylcyclohexane-1,5-methylene (20/80) decamethylene-co-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarbonyl-bis(imido-11-undecamethylene)-co-octamethylene (20/50/30)]amide.
- 20. The photoconductive element of claim 4 wherein the condensation polymer is poly[piperazine-co 1,3,3-trimethylcyclohexane-1,5-methylene (20/80) decamethylene-co-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarbonyl-bis(imido-11-undecamethylene)-co-octamethylene (20/75/5)]amide.
- 21. The photoconductive element of claim 4 wherein the condensation polymer is poly[piperazine-co 1,3,3-trimethylcyclohexane-1,5-methylene (20/80) decamethylene-co-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarbonyl-bis(imido-11 -undecamethylene)-co-octamethylene (25/70/5)]amide.
- 22. The photoconductive element of claim 4 wherein the condensation polymer is poly[piperazine-co-1,3,3-trimethylcyclohexane-1,5-methylene (25/75) decamethylene-co-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarbonyl-bis(imido-11-undecamethylene)-co-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarbonyl-bis(imido-11-undecamethylene)-co-octamethylene (25/65/55)]amide.
- 23. The photoconductive element of claim 4 wherein the condensation polymer is poly[2,2′-(ethylenedioxy)bis(ethylene)-co-piperazine-co-1,3,3-trimethylcyclohexane-1,5-methylene (5/25/70) decamethylene-co-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarbonyl-bis(imido-11-undecamethylene)-co-octamethylene (25/70/5)]amide.
- 24. The photoconductive element of claim 4 wherein the condensation polymer is Poly[piperazine-co-1,3,3-trimethylcyclohexane-1,5-methylene (25/75) decamethylene-co-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarbonyl-bis(imidoproylene)-co-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarbonyl-bis(imido-11-undecamethylene)-co-octamethylene (25/10/60/5)]amide.
- 25. The photoconductive element of claim 4 wherein the condensation polymer is poly[2,2′-(ethylenedioxy)bis(ethylene)-co-piperazine-co-1,3,3-trimethylcyclohexane-1,5-methylene (10/25/65) decamethylene-co-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarbonyl-bis(imidopropylene)-co-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarbonyl-bis(imido-11-undecamethylene)-co-octamethylene (25/10/60/5)]amide.
