Claims
- 1. A method of forming a laminated base for an imaging element comprising providing a top preformed biaxially oriented polyolefin microvoided sheet, providing a base paper, applying a bonding agent onto the top of said base paper and simultaneously applying said top biaxially oriented sheet to said bonding agent to join said microvoided sheet to said base paper, providing a back sheet of biaxially oriented polymer sheet bearing indicia and laminating said back sheet to the back of said base paper with bonding agent wherein said indicia are printed on the side of said back sheet facing said paper.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said back sheet of biaxially oriented sheet is transparent.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said top side sheet comprises a microvoided polyolefin sheet of a percent solid density between about 78% to 100% of solid density.
- 4. The methed of claim 3 wherein said microvoided polyolefin sheet comprises a skin layer of nonvoided material.
- 5. The methed of claim 4 wherein said microvoided polyolefin sheet comprises a skin layer on each surface.
- 6. The methed of claim 4 wherein said microvoided polyolefin sheet has a thickness of between about 0.0127 mm and 0.0635 mm.
- 7. The methed of claim 4 wherein said microvoided polyolefin sheet comprises a layer comprising titanium dioxide.
- 8. The method of claim 4 wherein said microvoided sheet has a Young's modulus of between about 690 MPa and 5516 MPa.
- 9. A method of claim 1 wherein the bonding agent for said top and said bottom comprises polyolefin.
- 10. The method of claim 1 wherein bonding agent for said top preformed sheet and said back sheet comprises polyethylene extruded onto the top and bottom of said base paper.
- 11. The method of claim 1 wherein bonding agent for said top preformed sheet and said bottom sheet comprises adhesive polymer.
- 12. The element of claim 1 wherein further comprising indicia printed on the bottom of said back sheet.
- 13. The element of claim 1 wherein said indicia are multicolor.
- 14. The method of claim 3 wherein the top biaxially oriented sheet is not transparent.
- 15. The method of claim 13 wherein said base paper comprises cellulose fiber paper between 120 and 250 .mu.m thick.
- 16. The method of claim 15 wherein said top side sheet comprises a microvoided polyolefin sheet of a percent solid density between about 78% and about 100%.
