Claims
- 1. A photographic element comprising a light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a cyan dye forming coupler capable of coupling with the developing agent 4-amino-3-methyl-N-ethyl-N-(2-methanesulfonamidoethyl)aniline sesquisulfate hydrate, to form a dye that in di-n-butyl phthalate has a left bandwidth (LBW) of 66 nm or less, having Formula (I): ##STR25## wherein R.sub.1 represents hydrogen or an alkyl group selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, and butyl groups;
- R.sub.2 represents an unsubstituted aryl group, an aryl group substituted with an alkyl group, or a phenyl group having an electron withdrawing group having a Hammett's Sigma value greater than 0 in a position meta or para to the amido group selected from the group consisting of cyano, halogen, carbonyl, oxysulfonyl, sulfoxide, sulfamoyl, carboxy, sulfonamido, and carbamoyl groups;
- n represents 1, 2, or 3;
- each X is located at a position of the phenyl ring meta or para to the sulfonyl group and is independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, acyloxy, acylamino, sulfonyloxy, sulfamoylamino, sulfonamido, ureido, oxycarbonyl, oxycarbonylamino, and carbamoyl groups wherein an X is an alkyl, alkoxy, or aryloxy group containing from 8 to 20 linear carbon atoms; and
- Z represents a hydrogen atom or a group which can be split off by the reaction of the coupler with an oxidized color developing agent.
- 2. The element of claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen.
- 3. The element of claim 1 wherein R.sub.2 is an unsubstituted aryl group.
- 4. The element of claim 1 wherein R.sub.2 is an aryl group substituted with an alkyl group.
- 5. The element of claim 1 wherein R.sub.2 is a phenyl group having an electron withdrawing group having a Hammett's Sigma value greater than 0.
- 6. The element of claim 1 wherein R.sub.2 represents a phenyl group having an electron withdrawing group in a position meta or para to the amido group which is a halogen.
- 7. The element of claim 1 wherein R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of a 4-chlorophenyl, 3,4-dichlorophenyl, 4-cyanophenyl, 3-chloro-4-cyanophenyl, pentafluorophenyl, and 4-sulfonamidophenyl.
- 8. The element of claim 1 wherein at least one X is an alkyl group.
