Claims
- 1. A process for mating two air-impermeable sheets in a sandwich with a liquid photopolymer layer therebetween comprising the steps of,
- coating one said sheet with a layer of said photopolymer of predetermined thickness presenting a roughened surface, placing on of said two sheets on a smooth flat surface, disposing a second one of the two sheets comprising a flexible transparent sheet having a photo image on the surface thereof adjacent to and spaced slightly from a first sheet with the coating therebetween and the image facing the coating, and
- scanning a member along the second sheet to force the uncoated one of said sheets into contact with the roughened photopolymer surface to remove air and smooth the coating surface into a coating of said predetermined thickness.
- 2. The process defined in claim 1, comprising the further steps of scanning a light source to follow said member and thereby expose and cure the photopolymer in a pattern produced by said photo image.
- 3. The process defined in claim 2 comprising the further steps of disposing a liquid coolant on the upper surface of the second sheet during scanning in a position between the blade and the light source.
- 4. The process defined in claim 2 comprising the further step of removing one of said sheets and removing unhardened photopolymer by dissolving it.
- 5. The process defined by claim 1 including the steps of providing a photo image on said sheet coated with photopolymer before coating.
- 6. The process defined by claim 5 including the step of photoflashing the coating through the sheet only sufficiently to harden the photopolymer coating adjacent the sheet.
- 7. A process of mating two air-impermeable sheets in a sandwich with a liquid photopolymer layer therebetween comprising the steps of,
- producing a photo image on one sheet, coating that sheet with a layer of the liquid polymer,
- photoflashing the layer of liquid photopolymer through the photo image only sufficiently to cure a liquid photopolymer layer adjacent the sheet, thereby leaving an outer surface layer of the photopolymer in liquid form; and
- contacting the photoflashed photopolymer outer surface layer with the outer one of said two sheets.
- 8. The process of mating two air-impermeable sheets, at least one of which is a flexible thin film sheet, in a sandwich with a photopolymer layer therebetween comprising the steps of,
- coating a surface of one of the sheets with a liquid layer of a material that conforms to any irregularities disposed on that surface of that sheet,
- disposing a photo image on a surface of the flexible one of the sheets,
- disposing between the sheets a photopolymer layer of a predetermined substantially constant thickness,
- sandwiching the sheets with the photopolymer layer in contact with said liquid layer, while disposing the photo image on a surface of its sheet facing the photopolymer,
- curing the photopolymer layer with radiation passed through the photo image to produce a printed pattern therein,
- stripping the photo image carrying sheet, and
- reusing that photo image carrying sheet for further similar process steps.
- 9. The process of claim 8 wherein one sheet is flexible, including the more detailed step of sandwiching the sheets by scanning over the surface of the flexible sheet to mate the sheet progressively to the photopolymer layer in air bubble free surface contact.
