- 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the head portion of each registration pin has a cylindrical registration surface.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the cylindrical registration surface has a radius of about 1 inch.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein each adjacent pair of said plurality of registration pins differ in thickness t, along said predetermined direction by Δt.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein Δt is about 0.005 inches.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein only two of the plurality of registration pins contact the edge of the printing plate.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the printing plate is skewed relative to the predetermined direction.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein an amount of skew of the printing plate is dependent upon a size of the printing plate.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the size is the longitudinal dimension of the printing plate.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the registration system is configured to register a plurality of different size printing plates on the support surface.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein only two of the plurality of registration pins contact the edge of each different size printing plate.
- 17. The apparatus according to claim 15, wherein each different size printing plate is skewed relative to the predetermined direction, and wherein an amount of the skew of each different size printing plate is dependent upon the size of the printing plate.
- 18. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the registration pins have cylindrical configurations with different diameters to provide the different thicknesses.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the registration system is configured to register n different size printing plates using n+1 registration pins (n>2), such that only two of the registration pins contact the edge of each different size printing plate.
- 20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein each adjacent pair of said n+1 registration pins differ in thickness t, along said predetermined direction by Δt.
- 21. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein each of the n different size printing plates contacts a common one of the n+1 registration pins.
- 22. An apparatus, comprising:a registration system for registering n different size printing plates using n+1 registration pins (n>2), such that only two of the registration pins contact an edge of each different size printing plate.
- 23. A method, comprising:providing a plurality of registration pins having different thicknesses along a predetermined direction; registering a printing plate on a support surface by positioning an edge of the printing plate on only two of the registration pins; and registering n different size printing plates using n+1 registration pins (n>2), such that only two of the registration pins contact the edge of each different size printing plate.
- 24. The method of claim 23, wherein the support surface is an external drum, and wherein the predetermined direction is parallel to a direction of rotation of the external drum.
- 25. The method of claim 23, further comprising: configuring each registration pin to minimize contact stress with the edge of the printing plate.
- 26. The method of claim 23, further comprising: varying a thickness t of each adjacent pair of the plurality of registration pins along the predetermined direction by an amount of about Δt.
- 27. The method of claim 23, further comprising:selectively skewing the printing plate relative to the predetermined direction.
- 28. The method of claim 27, wherein an amount of skew of the printing plate is dependent upon a size of the printing plate.
- 29. The method of claim 23, further comprising: registering a plurality of different size printing plates on the support surface.
- 30. The method according to claim 29, further comprising:selectively skewing each different size printing plate relative to the predetermined direction, wherein an amount of the skew of each different size printing plate is dependent upon the size of the printing plate.
- 31. The method of claim 23, further comprising: varying a thickness t of each adjacent pair of the n+1 registration pins along the predetermined direction by an amount of about Δt.
- 32. The method of claim 23, wherein each of the n different size printing plates contacts a common one of the n+1 registration pins.
