Claims
- 1. A composition, comprising: polypropylene and the reaction product of maleated polypropylene and a polyether monoamine which contains from about 36 to the polyether monoamine has a molecular weight of about 2000 to about 2200.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the polyether monoamine contains about 40 to about 43 ethylene oxide units and from 2.4 to about 3 propylene oxide units.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 wherein the polyether monoamine is of formula: wherein m is about 36 to about 44, and wherein n is about 1 to about 6.
- 4. The composition of claim 3 wherein m is about 40 to 43 and n is from about 2.4 to about 6.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein the composition is made by compounding the maleated polypropylene, the polyether monoamine, and the polypropylene in an extruder at a temperature of from about 175° C. to about 300° C. to react the maleated polypropylene and the polyether monoamine and to form the reaction product.
- 6. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises a filler.
- 7. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises a glass filler in an amount up to about 40 percent by weight.
- 8. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises a talc filler.
- 9. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises a carbon fiber filler.
- 10. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises a stabilizer.
- 11. The composition of claim 10, wherein the stabilizer is a phenol.
- 12. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises an elastomer.
- 13. The composition of claim 12, wherein the elastomer is an ethylene-propylene rubber.
- 14. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition is made by (a) reacting the maleated polypropylene and the polyether monoamine to form a reaction product, (b) blending the reaction product with polypropylene in an extruder.
- 15. The composition of claim 1, wherein the polyether monoamine is made by ethoxylating methanol ethylene oxide to form an ethoxylate, propoxylating the ethoxylate with propylene carbonate to form a polyol, and aminating the polyol with ammonia in the presence of an alkylation catalyst.
- 16. The composition of claim 1 wherein the composition contains from about 5 percent to about 40 percent of the maleated polypropylene, and from about 2 to about 10 percent of the polyether monoamine.
- 17. The composition of claim 13, wherein the composition contains from about 5 percent to about 40 percent of the maleated polypropylene, and from about 2 to about 10 percent of the polyether monoamine.
