Claims
- 1. A compound having the formula: ##STR36## wherein Ar is an aromatic moiety; w is 3 or 4;
- X is ##STR37## R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, aryl, substituted aryl, substituted alkyl, aryloxy, or halogen;
- j is 0, 1, or 2;
- Me is methyl;
- G is --SO.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 --, --S--, or --O--; and
- E is methallyl or allyl.
- 2. The compound of claim 1 wherein Ar is phenyl and w is 3.
- 3. A method for making a polyimide comprising the step of reacting an amine-substituted hub with a crosslinkable monoanhydride in a suitable solvent under an inert atmosphere, the hub having at least 3 radiating arms with each of said arms containing an amine substituent.
- 4. A method for making a polyimide comprising the steps of:
- (a) reacting a hydroxyl-substituted hub having at least three radiating arms with nitrophthalic anhydride to form an etheranhydride intermediate having at least three radiating arms each of which contains an anhydride functionality; and
- (b) condensing the etheranhydride intermediate with an amine-end cap having the formula of: ##STR38## wherein X is ##STR39## R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, aryl, substituted aryl, substituted alkyl, aryloxy, or halogen;
- j is 0, 1, or 2;
- Me is methyl;
- n is 1 or 2;
- G is --SO.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 --, --S--, or --O--; and
- E is methallyl or allyl.
- 5. A compound comprising the condensation product of substantially stoichiometric amounts of an etheranhydride and an amine end cap, the amine end cap having the formula ##STR40## wherein X is ##STR41## R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, aryl, substituted aryl, substituted alkyl, aryloxy, or halogen;
- n is 1 or 2;
- j is 0, 1 or 2;
- E is methallyl or allyl;
- Me is methyl; and
- G is --SO.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 --, --S--, or --O--; and
- the etheranhydride having the formula ##STR42## wherein Ar is an aromatic moiety; and w is an integer greater than or equal to 3.
- 6. The compound of claim 5 wherein Ar is phenyl and w is 3.
- 7. A method of making a polyimide, comprising the steps of:
- (a) condensing an etheramine with a dianhydride, the etheramine having the formula: ##STR43## wherein Ar is aryl and w is an integer greater than or equal to 3; and (b) adding a diamine and a crosslinkable monoanhydride to the condensation product of step (a) under an inert atmosphere.
- 8. A method of making a polyimide comprising the steps of:
- (a) condensing an etheranhydride with a diamine, the etheranhydride having the formula: ##STR44## wherein Ar is aryl and w is an integer greater than or equal to 3; and (b) adding a dianhydride and crosslinkable amine end cap to the condensation product of step (a) under an inert atmosphere.
- 9. A compound selected from the group consisting of: ##STR45## wherein Ar is an aromatic moiety; w is 3 or 4;
- n is 1 or 2;
- R.sub.10 is a residue of a diamine;
- R.sub.11 is a residue of a dianhydride;
- X is: ##STR46## R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, aryl, substituted aryl, substituted alkyl, aryloxy, or halogen;
- j is 0, 1, or 2;
- Me is methyl;
- G is --SO.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 --, --S--, or --O--; and
- E is methallyl or allyl.
- 10. A composite comprising a cured oligomer of claim 9.
- 11. A method for making a polyimide comprising the steps of:
- (a) reacting a halo-substituted aromatic hub with aminophenol to form an etherimine having the formula: ##STR47## wherein Ar is the residue of the aromatic hub and w is an integer greater than or equal to 3; and
- (b) reacting the etheramine with a monoanhydride end cap having the formula: ##STR48## wherein X is ##STR49## R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, aryl, substituted aryl, substituted alkyl, aryloxy, or halogen;
- j is 0, 1, or 2;
- Me is methyl; and
- G is --SO.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 --, --S--, or --O--.
