Claims
- 1. Polymerization catalysts obtained by mixing
- (A) a catalyst-forming component which is a hydride or organometallic compound of a metal belonging to Groups I to III, inclusive, of the Mendelyeev Periodic System with
- (B) a catalyst-forming component which is the product obtained by dispersing a titanium compound having the general formula
- (NR.sub.4).sub.p Ti.sub.m X.sub.(n.m)+p
- in which the Rs represent hydrogen or hydrocarbon radicals; the X.sub.(n.m) substituents are halogen atoms or, in part, OR' groups in which R' is an organic radical; n is the titanium valency and m and p are the whole numbers 1, 2 or 3; on a carrier essentially consisting of an anhydrous magnesium dihalide in an active form characterized in that in its X-rays spectrum the diffraction line of highest intensity that appears in the X-rays spectrum of the normal magnesium dihalide decreases in intensity and in its place a halo appears.
- 2. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which the total amount of titanium compound on the active magnesium dihalide carrier is from 0.01% to 30% by weight.
- 3. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which the total amount of titanium compound on active magnesium dihalide carrier is from 1 to 10% by weight.
- 4. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which component (A) is Al(i-C.sub.4 H.sub.9).sub.3.
- 5. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which component (A) is Al(C.sub.2 H.sub.5).sub.2 Cl.
- 6. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which the magnesium dihalide is active anhydrous MgCl.sub. 2.
- 7. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which the magnesium dihalide is active anhydrous MgBr.sub.2.
- 8. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which the titanium compound is N(CH.sub.3).sub.4 Ti.sub.2 Cl.sub.9.
- 9. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which the titanium compound is (NH.sub.4).sub.2 TiCl.sub.6.
- 10. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which the titanium compound is (C.sub.5 H.sub.5 NH).sub.3 TiCl.sub.6.
- 11. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which the titanium compound is N(C.sub.2 H.sub.5).sub.4 Ti.sub.2 Br.sub.9.
- 12. Catalysts according to claim 1, in which the titanium compound is N(C.sub.2 H.sub.5).sub.4 Ti.sub.2 Cl.sub.7 (OC.sub.6 H.sub.5).sub.2.
- 13. The method of preparing polymerization catalysts which comprises mixing
- (A) a catalyst-forming component which is a hydride or organometallic compound of a metal belonging to Groups I to III, inclusive, of the Mendelyeev Periodic System with
- (B) a catalyst-forming component which is the product obtained by co-grinding a titanium compound of the general formula
- (NR.sub.4).sub.p Ti.sub.m X.sub.(n.m)+p
- in which the Rs represent hydrogen or hydrocarbon radicals; the X.sub.(n.m) substituents are halogen atoms or, in part, OR' groups in which R' is an organic radical; n is the titanium valency and m and p are the whole numbers 1, 2 or 3; with a carrier essentially consisting of an anhydrous magnesium dihalide, until the magnesium dihalide is activated to a condition such that, in its X-rays spectrum, the diffraction line of highest intensity that appears in the X-rays spectrum of the normal magnesium dihalide decreases in intensity and, in its place, a halo appears.
- 14. The method of claim 13, in which the co-grinding is carried out in a ball mill in the absence of inert diluents.
- 15. The method of preparing polymerization catalysts which comprises mixing
- (A) a catalyst-forming component which is a hydride or organometallic compound of a metal belonging to Groups I to III, inclusive, of the Mendelyeev Periodic System with
- (B) a catalyst-forming component which is the product obtained by co-grinding a titanium compound of the general formula
- (NR.sub.4).sub.p Ti.sub.m X.sub.(n.m)+p
- in which the Rs represent hydrogen or hydrocarbon radicals; the X.sub.(n.m) substituents are halogen atoms or, in part, OR' groups in which R' is an organic radical; n is the titanium valency and m and p are the whole numbers 1, 2 or 3; with a carrier essentially consisting of an active magnesium dihalide which is the disproportionate product of a compound of the formula RMgX, in which R is a hydrocarbon radical and X is halogen, or the product obtained by treating said compound RMgX with a halogenated compound.
