Claims
- 1. An extrudable mixture comprising elastomer particles, binder component and a solid water carrier component having a composition other than said elastomer particles and said binder component and being associated with a sufficient amount of water to provide porosity to a porous article produced by extruding said extrudable mixture, said water associated with said solid water carrier component being more than about 50% by weight of the total blowing agent present in said extrudable mixture.
- 2. The extrudable mixture of claim 1 wherein the amount of water associated with said solid water carrier component in said extrudable mixture is controlled to control the porosity of said porous article.
- 3. The extrudable mixture of claim 1 wherein said elastomer particles are vulcanized and said extrudable mixture includes a major amount by weight of said elastomer particles.
- 4. The extrudable mixture of claim 1 wherein said elastomer particles are made from crumb rubber, and said water associated with said solid water carrier component is substantially all of the blowing agent present in said extrudable mixture.
- 5. The extrudable mixture of claim 1 wherein said binder component is polyethylene, and substantially all of the water associated with said solid water carrier component is combined water.
- 6. The extrudable mixture of claim 1 wherein more than about 50% of the water associated with said solid water carrier component is combined water.
- 7. An extruded porous article comprising a porous composite containing elastomer particles, binder component and a solid component having a composition other than said elastomer particles and said binder component, the porosity of said porous composite being at least partially controlled by the amount of water disassociated from said solid component in the process of manufacturing said extruded porous article, said solid component being present in an amount effective to associate with an amount of water which is more than about 50% by weight of the total blowing agent used to produce the porosity of said porous composite.
- 8. The extruded porous article of claim 7 wherein said composite is in the form of a length of porous pipe.
- 9. The extruded porous article of claim 7 wherein said composite is in the form of a sheet.
- 10. The extruded porous article of claim 7 wherein said elastomer particles are vulcanized and said composite includes a major amount of said elastomer particles.
- 11. The extruded porous article of claim 7 wherein said elastomer particles are made from crumb rubber.
- 12. The extruded porous article of claim 7 wherein said binder component is polyethylene, and said solid component is present in an amount effective so that the amount of water disassociated from said solid component in the process of manufacturing said extruded porous article is substantially all of the blowing agent used to produce the porosity of said porous composite.
- 13. The extruded porous article of claim 7 wherein said solid component is selected from the group consisting of molecular sieves, amorphous inorganic oxides, clays, synthetic ion exchange resins, vermiculite, diatomaceous earth and mixtures thereof.
- 14. The extruded porous article of claim 7 wherein said solid component is selected from the group consisting of synthetic zeolitic molecular sieves, synthetic ion exchange resins and mixtures thereof.

- 16. The extrudable mixture of claim 1 wherein said solid water carrier component is selected from the group consisting of a synthetic zeolitic molecular sieves, synthetic exchange resins and mixtures thereof.
- 17. The extrudable mixture of claim 1 wherein the amount of water associated with said solid water carrier component is in the range of about 0.05% to about 1% by weight of said extrudable mixture.
- 18. An extruded porous article comprising a porous composite containing elastomer particles, binder component and a solid component having a composition other than said elastomer particles and said binder component, the porosity of said porous composite being at least partially controlled by the amount of water disassociated from said solid component in the process of manufacturing said extruded porous article, said solid component being selected from the group consisting of molecular sieves, amorphous inorganic oxides, clays, synthetic ion exchange resins, vermiculite, diatomaceous earth and mixtures thereof.
- 19. The extruded porous article of claim 18 wherein said composite is in the form of a length of porous pipe.
- 20. The extruded porous article of claim 18 wherein said composite is in the form of a sheet.
