- a depth stop adjustment mechanism interconnected to one of said carriage assembly and said workpiece support surface and at least partially disposed within said workpiece opening, said depth stop adjustment mechanism including a main body selectively moveable between a plurality of operating positions to establish a corresponding plurality of predetermined minimum workpiece dimensions for limiting vertical translation of said carriage assembly toward said workpiece support surface.
- 2. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 1, wherein said main body is rotatably attached to the planing machine for movement between said plurality of operating positions.
- 3. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 1, wherein said main body is rotatably about an axis substantially perpendicular to a cutting member axis of rotation.
- 4. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 2, wherein said main body includes a generally cylindrical outer periphery.
- 5. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 2, further including a pair of laterally spaced apart sides, said main body at least partially extending through an aperture provided in one of said pair of laterally spaced apart sides.
- 6. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 2, wherein said depth stop adjustment mechanism further includes a plurality of stop members, said plurality of stop members upwardly extending from said main body.
- 7. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 5, wherein each stop member of said plurality of stop members are vertically adjustable.
- 8. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 6, wherein each said stop member of said plurality of stop members threadably engages said main body.
- 9. A planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece, the planing machine comprising:
- a carriage assembly including at least one cutting member adapted for cutting a surface of the workpiece, said carriage assembly mounted within the planing machine for selective bi-directional movement along a path of travel;
- a workpiece support surface disposed relative to said carriage assembly so as to define a selectively adjustable workpiece opening therebetween, said workpiece support surface fixedly mounted within the planing machine; and
- a depth stop adjustment mechanism interconnected to one of said carriage assembly and said workpiece support surface and at least partially disposed within workpiece opening, said depth stop adjustment mechanism including a main body attached to said workpiece support surface and selectively moveable between a plurality of operating positions to establish a corresponding plurality of predetermined minimum workpiece dimensions for limiting vertical translation of said carriage assembly toward said workpiece support surface.
- 10. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 9, wherein said main body is rotatably attached to the planing machine for movement between said plurality of operating positions.
- 11. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 9, wherein said main body is rotatably about an axis substantially perpendicular to a cutting member axis of rotation.
- 12. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 10, wherein said main body includes a generally cylindrical outer periphery.
- 13. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 10, further including a pair of laterally spaced apart sides, said main body at least partially extending through an aperture provided in one of said pair of laterally spaced apart sides.
- 14. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 10, wherein said depth stop adjustment mechanism further includes a plurality of stop members, said plurality of stop members upwardly extending from said main body.
- 15. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 14, wherein each stop members of said plurality of stop members are vertically adjustable.
- 16. The planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece of claim 15, wherein each said stop member of said plurality of stop members threadably engages said main body.
- 17. A method of adjusting a planing machine for automatically planing a workpiece to one of a plurality of predetermined minimum workpiece dimensions, the method including the steps of:
- providing a planing machine including a carriage assembly having at least one cutting member adapted for cutting a surface of the workpiece, and a workpiece support surface disposed relative to said carriage assembly so as to define a selectively adjustable workpiece opening therebetween;
- providing a depth stop adjustment mechanism including a main body and a plurality of depth stop members extending from said main body;
- mounting said main body to the planing machine substantially within said workpiece opening for movement between a plurality of operating positions;
- moving said main body between said plurality of operating positions to establish a selected one of said plurality of predetermined minimum workpiece dimensions;
- vertically adjusting said carriage assembly toward said workpiece support surface; and
- opposing vertical movement of said carriage assembly toward said workpiece support surface with one of said plurality of depth stop members.
- 18. The method of adjusting a planing machine of claim 17, wherein said step of moving said main body between said plurality of operating positions includes the step of rotating said main body.
- 19. The method of adjusting a planing machine of claim 18, wherein said step of rotating said main body includes the step of rotating said main body about a vertical axis.
- 20. The method of adjusting a planing machine of claim 17, further including the step of vertically adjusting at least one of said plurality of depth stop members relative to said main body.
