Claims
- 1. A method of imaging comprising forming an electrostatic latent image on a photoreceptor by contacting the image with a positively dry developer comprising a resin material, a colorant, a carrier, and an alkyl picolinium compound selected from those of the formula: ##STR3## wherein A is an anion and R is a hydrocarbon radical containing from 8 to 22 carbon atoms and subsequently transferring the developed image to a substrate and permanently affixing the image thereto.
- 2. A method of imaging in accordance with claim 1 wherein the alkyl picolinium compound is cetyl alpha picolinium chloride, cetyl alpha picolinium bromide, cetyl beta picolinium chloride, or cetyl gamma picolinium bromide, and the toner resin is a copolymer of styrene/n-butyl methacrylate, a copolymer of styrene/butadiene, or a polystyrene resin, and the pigment is carbon black.
- 3. A method of imaging in accordance with claim 1 wherein the alkyl picolinium compound is present in an amount of from 0.1 percent to 10 percent by weight based on the weight of toner, the resin is a copolymer of styrene/n-butyl methacrylate and the carrier is steel coated with polyvinylidene fluoride or vinyl fluoride resins.
- 4. A method in accordance with claim 1 wherein the colorant or pigment is coated with the alkyl picolinium compound in an amount of from 1 percent to 6 percent by weight of the pigment and the photoreceptor is negatively charged.
- 5. A method in accordance with claim 4 wherein the photoreceptor is polyvinylcarbazole.
- 6. A method of imaging in accordance with claim 1 wherein 10 to about 200 parts by weight of carrier to 1 part by weight of toner is present.
- 7. A method of imaging in accordance with claim 1 wherein the carrier is charged negatively and the toner is charged positively.
- 8. A method of imaging in accordance with claim 3 wherein the carrier is charged negatively and the toner is charged positively.
