Claims
- 1. A battery unit for an electrically powered vehicle comprising:
- a plurality of cylindrical batteries;
- a partitioning member for separating said batteries from one another, said partitioning member having a honeycomb structure forming a plurality of adjacent contiguous hexagonal compartments, each hexagonal compartment receiving a battery therein; and
- an outer case for receiving the batteries and the partitioning member therein.
- 2. The battery unit according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of cylindrical batteries comprises twelve cylindrical batteries arranged in substantially a three-by-four matrix.
- 3. The battery unit according to claim 2, wherein said outer case includes a ventilation air introduction port for introducing air into said outer case.
- 4. The battery unit according to claim 3, wherein gaps are formed between said cylindrical batteries and portions of said hexagonal compartments, and wherein said air introduced into said outer case flows through said gaps and exits said outer case.
- 5. The battery unit according to claim 4, wherein each of said cylindrical batteries includes a positive terminal at a first end thereof and a negative terminal at a second end thereof, said battery unit further including a plurality of connection terminals for interconnecting a positive terminal of one battery with a negative terminal of an adjacent battery, thereby connecting said twelve batteries in series.
- 6. The battery unit according to claim 5, wherein each of said connection terminals includes an elongated substantially flat conductor having a first end portion, a second end portion, a middle portion therebetween, and a stepped portion between said middle portion and each of said first and second end portions, wherein said first end portion and said second end portion each comprise a battery contact portion.
- 7. The battery unit according to claim 6, wherein each battery contact portion includes a pair of spaced-apart contact members, each of said contact members including a plurality of projections thereon for contacting a terminal of one of said batteries.
- 8. The battery unit according to claim 7, wherein three projections are provided on each of said contact members to form an isosceles triangle.
- 9. The battery unit according to claim 2, wherein said outer case is shaped to substantially conform to an outer periphery of said matrix of batteries, and wherein said outer case includes a plurality of indented portions on upper and lower ends of said outer case.
- 10. The battery unit according to claim 9, wherein one of said indented portions on said upper end of said outer case comprises a conductor guidance channel for guiding conductors exiting said outer case.
- 11. The battery unit according to claim 10, wherein said outer case includes a front cover, a rear cover, and a main cover therebetween, said main cover having a plurality of conductor pressing grooves formed therein, said front cover having a corresponding number of conductor pressing grooves formed therein, said conductor pressing grooves of said front cover and said main cover mating to form a plurality of conductor passing apertures, wherein said conductors exiting said outer case exit through said conductor passing apertures.
- 12. The battery unit according to claim 2, wherein said outer case is shaped to substantially conform to an outer periphery of said matrix of batteries, and wherein said outer case includes a plurality of indented portions and projecting portions on a bottom of said outer case, each of said indented portions and said projecting portions having a mounting projection for attaching said battery unit to a supporting structure.
- 13. The battery unit according to claim 2, wherein each of said cylindrical batteries includes a positive terminal at a first end thereof and a negative terminal at a second end thereof, said battery unit further including a plurality of connection terminals for interconnecting a positive terminal of one battery with a negative terminal of an adjacent battery, thereby connecting said twelve batteries in series.
- 14. The battery unit according to claim 13, wherein each of said connection terminals includes an elongated substantially flat conductor having a first end portion, a second end portion, a middle portion therebetween, and a stepped portion between said middle portion and each of said first and second end portions, wherein said first end portion and said second end portion each comprise a battery contact portion.
- 15. The battery unit according to claim 14, wherein each battery contact portion includes a pair of spaced-apart contact members, each of said contact members including a plurality of projections thereon for contacting a terminal of one of said batteries.
- 16. The battery unit according to claim 15, wherein three projections are provided on each of said contact members to form an isosceles triangle.
- 17. The battery unit according to claim 1, wherein said outer case includes a ventilation air introduction port for introducing air into said outer case.
- 18. The battery unit according to claim 17, wherein gaps are formed between said cylindrical batteries and portions of said hexagonal compartments, and wherein said air introduced into said outer case flows through said gaps and exits said outer case.
- 19. The battery unit according to claim 1, wherein each of said cylindrical batteries includes a positive terminal at a first end thereof and a negative terminal at a second end thereof, said battery unit further including a plurality of connection terminals for interconnecting a positive terminal of one battery with a negative terminal of an adjacent battery, thereby connecting said batteries in series.
- 20. The battery unit according to claim 19, wherein each of said connection terminals includes an elongated substantially flat conductor having a first end portion, a second end portion, a middle portion therebetween, and a stepped portion between said middle portion and each of said first and second end portions, wherein said first end portion and said second end portion each comprise a battery contact portion.
- 21. The battery unit according to claim 20, wherein each battery contact portion includes a pair of spaced-apart contact members, each of said contact members including a plurality of projections thereon for contacting a terminal of one of said batteries.
- 22. The battery unit according to claim 21, wherein three projections are provided on each of said contact members to form an isosceles triangle.
