Claims
- 1. A printing device for thermal transcription of a vaporizable dye onto a photographic paper comprising:
- a containing section for storing vaporizable dye,
- an entrance section including a first heater means for liquefying the vaporizable dye and for transporting the dye through said entrance section, and
- a vaporizing section including a second heater means for irradiating selective portions of said photographic paper and for vaporizing the liquefied dye transported through said entrance section and for thermally transcribing the vaporized dye onto said photographic paper.
- 2. The printing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said second heater means included in said vaporizing section includes a source of laser light.
- 3. The printing device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said source of laser light produces a laser light having an equalized radiation intensity distribution.
- 4. The printing device as claimed in claim 2 further comprising a transparent section for allowing said laser light to pass therethrough to heat said selected portions of said photographic paper.
- 5. The printing device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said laser light is passed through said vaporizing section to heat said selected portions of said photographic paper.
- 6. The printing device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said source of laser light produces a plurality of laser light beams.
- 7. The printing device as claimed in claim 6, wherein each of said plurality of laser light beams is dedicated to vaporizing and transcribing a predetermined color dye.
- 8. The printing device as claimed in claim 6, wherein one of said plurality of laser light beams is dedicated to heating said selected portions of said photographic paper.
- 9. The printing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first heater means maintains the liquefied dye at a temperature of 50.degree. C. to 300.degree. C.
- 10. The printing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said containing section further includes a plurality of tanks wherein each tank contains a different color dye.
- 11. The printing device as claimed in claim 10, wherein said color is yellow, cyan, or magenta.
- 12. The printing device as claimed in claim 10, wherein said plurality of tanks are replaceable.
- 13. The printing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said vaporizable dye is in the form of powder.
- 14. The printing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said liquefied vaporizable dye is transported by capillary action along the length of the entrance section.
- 15. The printing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first heater means is formed along substantially the entire length of said entrance section.
- 16. The printing device as claimed in claim 15, wherein said first heater means is a heating member having grooves to facilitate capillary action to transport said liquefied vaporizable dye to said vaporizing section.
- 17. The printing device as claimed in claim 15, wherein said entrance section further includes a plurality of beads along the length of said first heater means wherein said plurality of beads facilitate transport of said liquefied vaporizable by capillary action through said plurality of beads.
- 18. The printing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said vaporizing section further includes a plurality of retaining means for capturing said liquefied vaporizable dye transported by said entrance section.
- 19. The printing device as claimed in claim 18, wherein said plurality of retaining means further includes a third heater means for vaporizing said liquefied vaporizable dye.
- 20. The printing device as claimed in claim 19, wherein said retaining means includes a plurality of bores formed therein through which said vaporized dye is transcribed onto said photographic paper.
- 21. The printing device as claimed in claim 19, wherein said third heater means is a light absorbing layer formed on said retaining means for converting light energy into heat.
- 22. The printing device as claimed in claim 19, wherein said retaining means includes a plurality of beads wherein said liquefied vaporizable dye is retained in the gaps formed between said plurality of beads.
- 23. The printing device as claimed in claim 22, wherein said liquefied vaporizable dye retained by said plurality of beads is vaporized and transcribed onto said photographic paper through said plurality of beads.
- 24. The printing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said entrance section and said vaporizing section are contiguous, said vaporizing section being formed at a distal end of said entrance section.
- 25. The printing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said entrance section and said vaporizing section are contiguous, said vaporizing section being formed parallel along the length of said entrance section.
- 26. The printing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said second heater means includes a source of laser light.
- 27. A printing device for thermal transcription of a vaporizable dye onto a photographic paper comprising:
- a containing section for storing a vaporizable dye,
- a supplying section for supplying the vaporizable dye supplied from said containing section, and
- a vaporizing section including heating means for irradiating selected portions of said photographic paper and for vaporizing the vaporizable dye supplied by said supplying section for thermally transcribing the vaporized dye onto said photographic paper.
- 28. The printing device as claimed in claim 27 wherein the vaporizable dye contained in said containing section is a particulate vaporizable dye and wherein the vaporizable dye supplied by said supplying section to said vaporizing section is also a particulate vaporizable dye.
- 29. The printing device as claimed in claim 27 wherein the supplying section transports an excess vaporizable dye in circulation.
- 30. The printing device as claimed in claim 27 wherein the supplying section transports an excess vaporizable dye in circulation with the aid of beads.
- 31. The printing device as claimed in claim 27 wherein the supplying section adds heat responsive to the laser light to the vaporizable dye as the heat of vaporization.
- 32. The printing device as claimed in claim 27 wherein the laser light employed for generating the heat of vaporization in said vaporizing section is a laser light having an equalized radiation intensity distribution.
- 33. The printing device as claimed in claim 27, wherein said containing section further includes a plurality of tanks wherein each tank contains a different color dye.
- 34. The printing device as claimed in claim 33, wherein said color is yellow, cyan, or magenta.
- 35. The printing device as claimed in claim 33, wherein said plurality of tanks are replaceable.
- 36. The printing device as claimed in claim 33, wherein each of said plurality of tanks includes a nozzle member, and wherein said supply section includes a receiving member for mating with each of said nozzle members to form a hermetically sealed connection.
- 37. The printing device as claimed in claim 36, wherein said nozzle member includes a resilient valve and said receiving member includes a conical section with fluted portions formed thereon.
- 38. The printing device as claimed in claim 33, wherein each of said plurality of tanks include vents.
- 39. The printing device as claimed in claim 27, wherein said supply section further includes a rolling member for rollingly transporting said vaporizable dye to said vaporizing section.
- 40. The printing device as claimed in claim 27, wherein said supply section further includes a vibrating member for transporting said vaporizable dye to said vaporizing section by transverse vibration.
- 41. The printing device as claimed in claim 27, wherein said vaporizing section includes channeling means for transporting said vaporizable dye throughout said vaporizing section.
- 42. The printing device as claimed in claim 41, wherein said channeling means has formed thereon retaining means for capturing said vaporizable dye being transported throughout said vaporizing section to be vaporized by said heating means.
- 43. The printing device as claimed in claim 42, wherein said retaining means includes a plurality of grooves formed along the length of said channeling means.
- 44. The printing device as claimed in claim 42, wherein said vaporizing means includes a plurality of bores through which said vaporized dye is transcribed onto said photographic paper.
- 45. The printing device as claimed in claim 27, wherein said heating means includes a source of laser light.
- 46. The printing device as claimed in claim 45, wherein said source of laser light produces a plurality of laser light beams.
- 47. The printing device as claimed in claim 46, wherein each of said plurality of laser light beams is dedicated to vaporizing and transcribing a predetermined color dye.
- 48. The printing device as claimed in claim 46, wherein one of said plurality of laser light beams is dedicated to heating said selected portions of said photographic paper.
- 49. The printing device as claimed in claim 45, wherein said source of laser light includes a plurality of laser blocks.
- 50. The printing device as claimed in claim 27, wherein said vaporizing section covers substantially the entire width of said photographic paper.
- 51. The printing device as claimed in claim 27 further including control means for controlling said heating means over said vaporizing section to vaporize and transcribe said vaporized dye onto said photographic paper.
- 52. The printing device as claimed in claim 51, wherein said control means includes a rotary actuator and an offset cam.
- 53. A printing device for thermal transcription of a vaporizable dye onto a photographic paper comprising:
- a printing member having
- a containing section for storing a vaporizable dye,
- an entrance section including a first heater means for liquefying the vaporizable dye contained in said dye tank and for transporting the dye through said entrance section, and
- a plurality of retaining means for retaining said liquefied vaporizable dye supplied by said entrance section;
- a source of laser light for irradiating selective portions of said photographic paper and for vaporizing the liquefied dye in said retaining means; and
- control means for controlling the movement of said printing member between said source of laser light and said photographic paper for thermally transcribing the vaporized dye onto said photographic paper.
- 54. The printing device as claimed in claim 53 further comprising a plurality of said printing members.
- 55. A printing device for thermal transcription of a vaporizable dye onto a photographic paper comprising:
- a printing member having
- a containing section for storing a vaporizable dye,
- an entrance section including a first heater means for liquefying the vaporizable dye contained in said dye tank and for transporting the dye through said entrance section, said entrance section covering substantially the entire width of said photographic paper, and
- a plurality of retaining means for retaining said liquefied vaporizable dye supplied by said entrance section;
- a source of laser light for irradiating selective portions of said photographic paper and for vaporizing the liquefied dye in said retaining means; and
- control means for controlling the movement of said laser source over said printing member for thermally transcribing the vaporized dye onto said photographic paper.
- 56. The printing device as claimed in claim 55, wherein said source of laser light includes a plurality of laser blocks.
