Claims
- 1. An electrophotographic printing member comprising:
- a conductive substrate;
- a photoelectrically sensitive, electrically chargeable, semiconductor layer formed on said conductive substrate;
- wherein the photoelectrically sensitive, electrically chargeable layer has a non-single crystal semiconductor layer on the substrate and an insulating or semi-insulating layer on the non-single crystal semiconductor layer and having an external surface and permeability to light and electrical carriers;
- wherein the non-single crystal semiconductor layer has a first layer on the side of the substrate and a second layer on the first layer and wherein the first layer is P or N type and the second layer is substantially I type; where said second layer is thicker than any of said first and said insulating or semi-insulating layers;
- where said external surface of said insulating or semi-insulating layer can be used as the printing surface; and
- where said insulating or semi-insulating layer comprises a silicon compound containing carbon or nitrogen either in stoichiometric or non-stoichiometric amounts.
- 2. An electrophotographic printing member comprising:
- a conductive substrate;
- a non-single crystal first semiconductor layer formed on said conductive substrate, said first semiconductor layer mainly including silicon doped with boron or indium;
- a non-single crystal second semiconductor layer comprising silicon formed on said first semiconductor layer;
- an insulating or semi-insulating layer comprising a silicon compound containing carbon or nitrogen formed on said second semiconductor layer, wherein said external surface functions as the printing surface, where said second layer is thicker than any of said first and said insulating or semi-insulating layers
- where the band gap of said first semiconductor layer is substantially larger than that of said second semiconductor layer and the band gap of said insulating or semi-insulating layer is substantially larger than that of said second semiconductor layer,
- wherein the photoelectrically sensitive, electrically chargeable layer has a non-single crystal semiconductor layer on the substrate and an insulating or semi-insulating layer on the non-single crystal semiconductor layer and having an external surface and permeability to light and electrical carriers;
- where said external surface of said insulating or semi-insulating layer can be used as the printing surface; and
- where said insulating or semi-insulating layer comprises a silicon compound containing carbon or nitrogen either in stoichiometric or non-stoichiometric amounts.
