Claims
- 1. An asbestos floor tile removal system for uplifting asbestos floor tile from a subfloor, comprising:
- means for reducing the temperature of the asbestos floor tile for a period of time to effect a substantial debonding between the asbestos tile and the underlying subfloor;
- means for uplifting the debonded asbestos tile off the subfloor;
- whereby the debonded and uplifted asbestos tile being removed substantially without degradation and virtually without emission of asbestos into the surrounding environment.
- 2. An asbestos floor tile removal system as in claim 1, wherein:
- the temperature reducing means comprises a debonder (10) for exposing the asbestos floor tile to dry ice whereby the adhesive bonding between the asbestos floor tile and the subfloor is rendered substantially ineffective as a bonding medium.
- 3. An asbestos floor tile removal system as in claim 1, wherein:
- the temperature reducing means comprises a debonder (39) for exposing the asbestos floor tile to a refrigerant agent whereby the adhesive bonding between the asbestos floor tile and an asbestos floor tile removal system as in claim 1, including
- a container rack means 57 mounted to said cover plate the subfloor is rendered substantially ineffective as a bonding medium.
- 4. An asbestos tile removal system as in claim 1, wherein:
- the temperature reducing means comprises a frame (11) having a pair of elongated wall members and a pair of elongated end wall members to define a refrigeration chamber (23) enclosed on four sides and dimensioned for receiving dry ice being supportably disposed upon the asbestos floor tile;
- roller means (17) affixed to said frame to facilitate the dispositioning of said temperature reducing means and the dry ice constrained within the refrigeration chamber manually about the asbestos floor tile;
- cover means (22) for enclosing said refrigeration chamber to substantially enclose the reduced temperature atmospherics effected by the dry ice between the asbestos floor tile and said refrigeration chamber.
- a container means (33) for accommodating the uplifted asbestos floor tile in a relatively uniform stack(s) of floor tile (32).
- 5. An asbestos floor tile removal system as in claim 1, wherein:
- the temperature reducing means comprises a housing means (34) for defining a refrigeration chamber (53), and a plate member (45) mounted unto said housing means, and a source (51) of pressurized cryogen material mounted to said cover plate member, and means (49, 50, 52) for releasing the cryogen material into said refrigeration chamber;
- whereby the asbestos floor tile being exposed to a cryogenically reduced temperature is caused to debond from the subfloor.
