Claims
- 1. A method of converting virginiamycin M.sub.1 to a compound of the formula III: ##STR9## which comprises the steps of: (a) the addition of about 1 mole equivalent of methanesufonyl chloride to an anhydrous pyridine solution of virginiamycin M.sub.1 ;
- (b) incubation at about 25.degree. C. for about 20 minutes;
- (c) removal of the pyridine;
- (d) partitioning; and
- (e) chromatography.
- 2. A method of converting the compound of Formula III of claim 1 to the compounds of Formula I: ##STR10## which comprises the steps of: (a) the addition of about 1 mole equivalent of sodium borohydride to a methanolic solution of the compound of Formula III of claim 1;
- (b) partitioning; and
- (c) chromatography.
