Claims
- 1. A process for producing granular material from inorganic pigments and auxiliary substances, comprising the steps ofa) mechanically mixing one or more inorganic pigment powders with one or more auxiliary substances promoting processability wherein the amount of one or more auxiliary substances is up to 10 wt % referred to the pigment used, b) subjecting this mixture to a compacting step to produce a compacted product, c) comminuting the compacted product to produce a comminuted product, d) dividing the comminuted product into two or more fractions, e) removing a first fraction of particles as product and recycling the other fraction or at least one of the other fractions back into the process.
- 2. The process according to claim 1, including the steps of dividing the compacted product from step b) into two fractions including a coarse fraction and a fine fraction, passing the coarse fraction to step c) and passing the fine fraction to step d), and dividing the fine fraction in step d) either separate from or together with the comminuted product from step c).
- 3. The process according to claim 1, including the steps of dividing the comminuted product in step d) into two fractions including a product fraction having particles above 80 μm and a fine fraction having particles smaller than 80 μm, recycling the fine fraction back into the process and rounding the product fraction in a rounding step.
- 4. The process according to claim 1, including the steps of dividing the comminuted product in step d) into three fractions including a coarse fraction, a fine fraction and a middle product fraction having particles between 80 and 2000 μm, recycling the fine fraction and the coarse fraction back into the process and rounding the middle product fraction in a rounding step.
- 5. The process according to claim 4, including the step of removing any dust during the rounding step.
- 6. The process according to claim 1, including the step of coating the product obtained in step d) with auxiliary substances.
- 7. The process according to claim 1, including the step of selecting the inorganic pigments powders from the group consisting of iron oxides, titanium dioxide, chromium oxides, rutile mixed phase pigments and mixtures of these pigments with carbon black.
- 8. The process according to claim 1, including the step of selecting the auxiliary substances from the group consisting of salts selected from among the phosphates, silicates, aluminates, borates; polysaccharides and cellulose derivatives, oils from biological cultivation, refined petroleum oils based on paraffins and/or naphthenes, synthetically produced oils, alkylphenols, glycols, polyethers, polyglycols, polyglycol derivatives, protein fatty acid condensation products, alkylbenzenesulphonates, alkylnaphthalenesulphonates, lignosulphonates, sulphated polyglycol ethers, melamine formaldehyde condensates, gluconic acid, and polyhydroxy compounds.
- 9. The process according to claim 1, including adding the auxiliary substances in quantities of from 0.001 to 10 wt. %, referred to the pigments used.
- 10. The process according to claim 1, wherein the compacting of step b) is carried out by means of a roll press or matrix press at line forces of from 0.1 to 50 kN/cm.
- 11. The process of claim 1 wherein the comminuting of step c) is carried out by screening through a passing screen having a mesh size of from 0.5 to 4 mm.
- 12. The process according to claim 1, including a rounding step for rounding the particles of the first fraction, and wherein the rounding step is carried out on a rotary disk, in a rotary drum, in a screening unit or in a fluid bed.
- 13. A process according to claim 1, wherein the first fraction has at least 85% of the particles larger than 100 μm.
- 14. A process according to claim 1, wherein the first fraction has at least 85% of the particles between 80 and 2000 μm.
- 15. A process according to claim 14, wherein the first fraction has at least 85% of the particles between 100 and 1000 μm.
- 16. A process according to claim 1, including a rounding step for rounding the particles of the first fraction.
- 17. The process according to claim 16, including the step of removing any dust during the round step.
- 18. The process according to claim 1 wherein the granular material is dispersible.
- 19. A process for producing granular material from inorganic pigments and auxiliary substances, comprising the steps ofa) mechanically mixing one or more inorganic pigment powders with one or more auxiliary substances promoting processability to produce a cohesive, viscous, non-slurry homogeneous mixture, b) subjecting this mixture to a compacting step to produce a compacted product, c) comminuting the compacted product to produce a comminuted product, d) dividing the comminuted product into two or more fractions, e) removing a first fraction of particles as product and recycling the other fraction or at least one of the other fractions back into the process.
- 20. The process according to claim 19, wherein the compacting step includes application of line forces of from 0.1 to 50 kN/cm.
- 21. The process according to claim 19, wherein the compacting step includes application of line forces of at least 2 kN/cm.
- 22. The process according to claim 19, wherein the compacting step comprises pressing once or twice with a roll press.
- 23. A process for producing granular material from inorganic pigments and auxiliary substances, comprising the steps ofa) mechanically mixing one or more inorganic pigment powders with one or more auxiliary substances promoting processability wherein the amount of one or more auxiliary substances selected from a group consisting of salts selected from among the phosphates, silicates, aluminates, borates; polysaccharides and cellulose derivatives, oils from biological cultivation, refined petroleum oils, alkylphenols, glycols, polyethers, polygylcols, polyglycol derivatives, protein fatty acid condensation products, alkylbenzenesulphonates, alkylnaphthalenesulphonates, lignosulphonates, sulphated polyglycol ethers, melamine formaldehyde condensates, gluconic acid, and polyhydroxy compounds is up to 10 wt% referred to the pigments used, b) subjecting the mixture to a compacting to produce a compacted product, c) comminuting the compacted product to produce a comminuted product, d) dividing the comminuted product into two or more fractions, and e) removing a first fraction of particles as product and recycling the other fraction or at least one of the other fractions back into the process.
