Claims
- 1. The process of separating husks from dried spent grains comprising the steps of:
- subjecting dried spent grains produced in a mashing operation to a temperature suffieiently low to embrittle the same; and
- exerting mechanical force on the embrittled grains to separate the husks from the grains while maintaining those grains at a sufficiently low temperature to keep them embrittled.
- 2. The process of claim 1 in which the step of subjecting the dry spent grains to low temperature comprises applying liquid nitrogen to the grains.
- 3. The process of claim 2 in which the liquid nitrogen is sprayed on the grains as the grains move past a source of sprayed liquid nitrogen.
- 4. The process of claim 2 in which the grains are passed through a bath of liquid nitrogen.
