Claims
- 1. An isolated nucleic acid, said nucleic acid comprising the nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 5 and SEQ ID NO: 6.
- 2. The isolated nucleic acid of claim 1, wherein said nucleic acid consists of a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 5and SEQ ID NO: 6.
- 3. An isolated nucleic acid having a nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 5.
- 4. A vector comprising the nucleic acid of claim 1.
- 5. The vector of claim 4, wherein the nucleic acid is operably linked to a promoter.
- 6. The vector of claim 5, wherein the nucleic acid is operably linked to a promoter which is operably linked to an effector gene.
- 7. The vector of claim 6, wherein the effector gene is selected from the group consisting of a gene conferring resistance to pests, a gene conferring resistance to herbicides, a gene involved in growth of a plant, a gene conferring resistance to spoiling, and a gene conferring resistance to adverse weather conditions.
- 8. The vector of claim 7, wherein the effector gene comprises a gene responsible for resistance to pests.
- 9. The vector of claim 8, wherein the effector gene comprises a corn rootworm resistance gene.
- 10. A host cell comprising the nucleic acid of claim 1.
- 11. A host cell comprising the vector of claim 4.
- 12. A plant cell comprising the nucleic acid of claim 1.
- 13. The plant cell of claim 12, wherein the plant cell is a maize cell.
- 14. A transgenic plant comprising the nucleic acid of claim 1.
- 15. The transgenic plant of claim 14, wherein the plant is maize.
- 16. A root-preferred transcriptional regulatory region comprising a root-preferred element operably linked to a promoter that is not root-preferred, wherein the root-preferred element is selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 5 and SEQ ID NO: 6.
- 17. A method of conferring root-preferred gene expression upon a transcriptional regulatory unit comprising:
- a) isolating a root-prefered element;
- b) operably linking the root-preferred element to a promoter element that is not root-preferred, resulting in a root-preferred transcriptional regulatory region;
- wherein the root-preferred element is selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 5, and SEQ ID NO: 6.
- 18. A method of expressing an effector gene preferentially in root tissue comprising operably linking a root-preferred transcriptional regulatory region to an effector gene, wherein the root-preferred transcriptional regulatory region comprises a root-preferred element selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 5, and SEQ ID NO: 6.
- 19. The method of claim 18, wherein the effector gene is selected from the group consisting of a gene conferring resistance to pests, a gene conferring resistance to herbicides, a gene involved in a growth of a plant, a gene conferring resistance to spoiling, and a gene conferring resistance to adverse weather conditions.
