Abstract
In one embodiment, the techniques herein are directed to receiving a reason for a call at a user device. For instance, an illustrative method herein may comprise: receiving, at an application on a recipient device of a user, information about a call to be made from an initiating device, the information having an outbound phone number of the call, a name of an organization of the initiating device, and a reason for the call; and configuring, by the application, a caller identification process on the recipient device to display, in response to receiving a subsequent call from the outbound phone number, the name of the organization and the reason for the call; wherein, in response to the initiating device calling the recipient device using the outbound phone number, the caller identification process on the recipient device displays the name of the organization and the reason for the call.
Description
Claims
  • 1. A method, comprising: receiving, at an application on a recipient device of a user, information about a call to be made from an initiating device, the information having an outbound phone number of the call, a name of an organization of the initiating device, and a reason for the call; andconfiguring, by the application, a caller identification process on the recipient device to display, in response to receiving a subsequent call from the outbound phone number, the name of the organization and the reason for the call;wherein, in response to the initiating device calling the recipient device using the outbound phone number, the caller identification process on the recipient device displays the name of the organization and the reason for the call.
  • 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the reason for the call includes an urgency of the call.
  • 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the reason for the call is selected from a group consisting of: potentially fraudulent transactions; a change in privacy rules; a special offer; a requested callback; a customer survey; and a response to an inquiry.
  • 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising: providing an icon to display by the caller identification process that indicates the call is validated as arriving from the organization.
  • 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising: presenting an option for rescheduling the call for a future time.
  • 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the caller identification process compares an incoming phone number to a directory and displays the name of the organization when the incoming phone number matches a record in the directory.
  • 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the caller identification process compares an incoming phone number to a directory and determines the incoming phone number is not in the directory and subsequently queries the application for an identity associated with the incoming phone number.
  • 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the caller identification process queries the application for an identity associated with every incoming call.
  • 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the call is either a voice call or a text message.
  • 10. A tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions stored thereon that, when executed on a computer of a recipient device of a user, cause an application on the recipient device of the user to perform a process comprising: receiving information about a call to be made from an initiating device, the information having an outbound phone number of the call, a name of an organization of the initiating device, and a reason for the call; andconfiguring a caller identification process on the recipient device to display, in response to receiving a subsequent call from the outbound phone number, the name of the organization and the reason for the call;wherein, in response to the initiating device calling the recipient device using the outbound phone number, the caller identification process on the recipient device displays the name of the organization and the reason for the call.
  • 11. The tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein the reason for the call includes an urgency of the call.
  • 12. The tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10, the process further comprising: presenting an option for rescheduling the call for a future time.
  • 13. The tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein the caller identification process compares an incoming phone number to a directory and displays the name of the organization and the reason for the call when the incoming phone number matches a record in the directory.
  • 14. The tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein the caller identification process compares an incoming phone number to a directory and determines the incoming phone number is not in the directory and subsequently queries the application for an identity associated with the incoming phone number.
  • 15. The tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein the caller identification process queries the application for an identity associated with every incoming call.
  • 16. An apparatus, comprising: one or more network interfaces;a processor coupled to the one or more network interfaces and configured to execute one or more processes; anda memory configured to store a caller identification process and an application that is executable by the processor, the application when executed configured to: receive information about a call to be made from an initiating device, the information having an outbound phone number of the call, a name of an organization of the initiating device, and a reason for the call; andconfigure the caller identification process to display, in response to receiving a subsequent call from the outbound phone number, the name of the organization and the reason for the call;wherein, in response to the initiating device calling the apparatus using the outbound phone number, the caller identification process displays the name of the organization and the reason for the call.
  • 17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the reason for the call includes an urgency of the call.
  • 18. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the caller identification process compares an incoming phone number to a directory and displays the name of the organization and the reason for the call when the incoming phone number matches a record in the directory.
  • 19. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the caller identification process compares an incoming phone number to a directory and determines the incoming phone number is not in the directory and subsequently queries the application for an identity associated with the incoming phone number.
  • 20. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the caller identification process queries the application for an identity associated with every incoming call.
