Claims
- 1. A record carrier for a magneto-optical disc memory for enabling detection of a tracking signal and at least one of recording, reproducing and erasing information by application of a light beam providing a light spot having a predetermined diameter, comprising:
- a circular disc-like substrate;
- a record layer which is formed on said substrate and used for writing information by changing the direction of magnetization; and
- guide groove means of a plurality of tracks formed in advance and extending in the radial direction of said substrate with flat portions therebetween;
- each flat portion between said tracks of said guide groove means being divided into a plurality of sectors, each sector including a header portion in which a header signal containing an address for distinguishing at least a respective sector formed in advance with pits of a phase structure and a data portion adjacent to said header portion; and
- said guide groove means adapted to serve as an optical guide for the light spot of the light beam adapted to at least one of record, reproduce and erase said information on said data portion, said tracks of said guide groove means being disposed at an approximately constant pitch which is smaller than the predetermined diameter of the light spot of the light beam adapted to at least one of record, reproduce and erase.
- 2. A record carrier according to claim 1, wherein said pits are composed of concave portions of a width which is smaller than the predetermined diameter of the spot of the light beam adapted to at least one of record, reproduce and erase and of a depth of approximately one quarter wavelength such that the light reflected from said pits produces a phase difference in relation to the light reflected from said flat portions.
- 3. A record carrier according to claim 1, wherein said guide groove means is formed into a width smaller than the predetermined diameter of the spot of the light beam adapted to at least one of record, reproduce and erase and a depth of approximately one eighth wavelength such that the light reflected by said guide groove means is diffracted.
- 4. A record carrier according to claim 1, wherein said recording layer is perpendicular magnetic thin film on which said guide groove means and said pits are formed in advance.
- 5. A record carrier according to claim 1, wherein the predetermined diameter of the spot of the light beam is for adapted to record, reproduce and erase is about 1.8 .mu.m.
- 6. A record carrier according to claim 1, wherein said guide groove means has a V-shape in cross-section.
- 7. A record carrier according to claim 5, wherein said guide groove means has of a V-shape in cross-section.
- 8. A record carrier for a magneto-optical disc memory having light beam means for providing a light beam forming a light beam spot having a predetermined diameter for enabling detection of a tracking signal and for at least one of recording, reproducing and erasing information on said record carrier, comprising:
- a circular disc-like substrate;
- a recording layer which is formed on said substrate and used for writing information by changing the direction of magnetization; and
- guide groove means of a plurality of tracks formed in advance and extending in the radial direction of said substrate with flat portions therebetween;
- each flat portion between said tracks of said guide groove means being divided into a plurality of sectors, each sector including a header portion in which a header signal containing an address for distinguishing at least a respective sector is formed in advance with pits of a phase structure and a data portion adjacent to said header portion; and
- said guide groove means serving as an optical guide for the light spot of the light beam which enables at least one of recording, reproducing and erasing the information in the data portion, said tracks of said guide groove means being disposed at an approximately constant pitch which is smaller than the predetermined diameter of the light spot of the light beam.
- 9. A record carrier according to claim 8, wherein the predetermined diameter of the spot of the light beam is about 1.8 .mu.m.
- 10. A record carrier according to claim 8, wherein said pits are composed of concave portions of a width which is smaller than the predetermined diameter of the spot of the light beam and of a depth of approximately one quarter wavelength such that light reflected from said pits produces a phase difference in relation to the light reflected from said flat portions.
- 11. A record carrier according to claim 8, wherein said guide groove means is formed into a width smaller than the diameter of the spot of the light beam and a depth of approximately one eighth wavelength such that the light reflected by said guide groove means is diffracted.
- 12. A record carrier according to claim 8, wherein said recording layer is a perpendicular magnetic thin film on which said guide groove means and said pits are formed in advance.
- 13. A record carrier for use in a magneto-optical disc apparatus including means for producing a light beam providing a light spot of a predetermined diameter for enabling detection of a tracking signal and for enabling at least one of recording, reproducing and erasing information from said record carrier, said record carrier comprising:
- a circular disc-like substrate;
- a recording layer which is formed on said substrate and used for writing information by changing the direction of magnetization; and
- guide groove means of a plurality of tracks formed in advance and extending in the radial direction of said substrate with flat portions therebetween;
- each flat portion between said tracks of said guide groove means being divided into a plurality of sectors, each sector including a header portion in which a header signal containing an address for distinguishing at least a respective sector is formed in advance with pits of a phase structure and a data portion adjacent to said header portion; and
- said guide groove means serving as an optical guide for the light spot of the light beam which enables at least one of recording, reproducing and erasing the information onto the data portion, said tracks, of said guide groove means being disposed at an approximately constant pitch which is smaller than the predetermined diameter of a spot of the light beam which enables at least one of recording, reproducing and erasing of the information.
- 14. A record carrier according to claim 13, wherein the predetermined diameter of the spot of the light beam is about 1.8 .mu.m.
- 15. A record carrier according to claim 13, wherein said guide groove means has a V-shape in cross-section.
- 16. A record carrier according to claim 13, wherein said pits are composed or concave portions of a width which is smaller than the predetermined diameter of the spot of the light beam and of a depth approximately one quarter wavelength such that light reflected from said pits produces a phase difference in relation to the light reflected from said flat portions.
- 17. A record carrier according to claim 13, wherein said guide groove means is formed into a width smaller than the predetermined diameter of the spot of the light beam and a depth of approximately one eighth wavelength such that the light reflected by said guide groove means is diffracted.
- 18. A record carrier according to claim 13, wherein said recording layer is a perpendicular magnetic thin film on which said guide groove means and said pits are formed in advance.
