Claims
- 1. A system for switching the traveling direction of a tape which selectively travels in one of first and second directions in an apparatus which has a first reel onto which the tape, which is traveling in the first direction, is wound, and a second reel onto which the tape traveling in the second direction, is wound, said system comprising:
- first means, including a rotatable axle in direct drive connection with the tape and a pinch roller which presses the tape against said rotatable axle, for causing the tape to selectively travel in one of said first and second directions;
- first driving means, including an electric motor, for driving the first means in response to the electric motor of said first driving means being turned ON;
- second means, in constant drive connection with said first driving means, for selectively providing a drive connection between said first driving means and one of said first and second reels so that the selected one of said first and second reels is driven to rotate and cause the tape to be wound onto the selected one of said first and second reels;
- third means for turning OFF the electric motor of said first driving means for a predetermined time period when (a) the traveling direction of the tape is to be switched between said first direction and said second direction, and (b) while said pinch roller presses the tape against said rotatable axle;
- fourth means for forcing said second means to provide a drive connection between said first driving means and the first reel when (a) the traveling direction of the tape is to be switched from the second direction to the first direction and (b) while the electric motor of said first driving means is turned OFF by said third means for said predetermined time period, and for forcing said second means to disconnect the drive connection between said first driving means and the first reel and to establish a drive connection between said first driving means and the second reel when (a) the traveling direction of the tape is to be switched from the first direction to the second direction and (b) during said predetermined period the electric motor of said first driving means is turned OFF by said third means for said predetermined time period; and
- second driving means for driving said fourth means.
- 2. A system as set forth in claim 1, wherein said second means includes a gear which is in drive connection with said first driving means, and which is movable between a first position wherein a drive connection is established between said first driving means and the first reel and a second position wherein a drive connection is established between said first driving means and the second reel.
- 3. A system as set forth in claim 2, wherein said gear is rotatably supported at the free end of a pivotal lever, the free end of said pivotal lever being operably engaged with an elongate reciprocal lever which forms part of said fourth means.
- 4. A system as set forth in claim 2, wherein said roller remains pressed tightly against said axle during said predetermined period during which said gear is moved between said first and second positions.
- 5. A system as set forth in claim 4, wherein said fourth means forces said second means to engage one of the first and second reels while the tape is tightly held against the axle by means of the roller while the axle which is rotated by said first driving means is stationary in response to the electric motor said first driving means being turned OFF by said third means for said predetermined time.
- 6. A system as set forth in claim 5 wherein said apparatus is selectively operable in a first mode while the tape travels in said first direction, and in a second mode while the tape travels in said second direction, and said fourth means forces said second means to selectively engage one of said first and second reels when the operation mode is switched from said second mode to said first mode.
- 7. A system as set forth in claim 5, wherein said fourth means includes an elongate member which is so arranged as to extend in a moving direction essentially parallel to the moving direction of said gear, and is movable in said moving direction of said elongate member, said elongate member being operatively connected with said gear for causing the rotational axis of said gear to be displaced between said first position and said second position.
- 8. A system as set forth in claim 7, wherein said second driving means includes a second electric motor which is operatively connected with the elongate member via a cam gear.
- 9. A system for switching the traveling direction of a tape which selectively travels in a forward or reverse direction in an apparatus which has a take-up reel table for receiving a take up-reel onto which tape traveling in a forward direction is wound, and a supply reel table for receiving a supply reel onto which tape traveling in a reverse direction is wound, said apparatus being selectively operable in one of a first mode wherein the tape travels in the forward direction, and
- a second mode wherein the tape travels in the reverse direction, said system comprising:
- a capstan axle;
- a pinch roller which is rotatable and is biased against said capstan axle, said pinch roller pressing the tape tightly against said capstan axle;
- a first motor for selectively driving the capstan axle to rotate;
- a pendulum gear which is in constant drive connection with the capstan axle, said pendulum gear being pivotally movable between said take-up and supply reel tables to selectively establish a drive connection with one of said take-up and supply reel tables so as to transmit rotational force from said capstan axle to the selected one of said take-up and supply reel tables with which a drive connection is established;
- switching means for forcing said pendulum gear to disengage from the one of said take-up and supply reel tables with which the pendulum gear is currently in drive connection with, while the rotation of the capstan axle stops in response to said first motor being de-energized for a predetermined period of time, and establish a drive connection with the other of said take-up and supply reel tables, when a change between said first and second modes is required and while (a), the capstan axle is stationary and (b) the pinch roller is biased against said capstan axle, in response to the de-energization of said first motor for said predetermined period of time; and
- second driving means for driving said switching means, said second driving means including a second motor which is energized when said first motor is de-energized for said predetermined period of time.
- 10. A system as set forth in claim 9, wherein said switching means includes an elongate member which extends in a first direction which is essentially parallel to a direction in which said pendulum gear is pivotable, said elongate member being movable in said first direction, said elongate member being operatively connected with said pendulum gear for causing the rotational axis of said pendulum gear to move from a first position wherein one of said take-up and supply reel tables is engaged, to a second position wherein the other of said take-up and supply reel tables is engaged, while said capstan axle is stationary in response to an absence of rotational drive by said first motor.
- 11. A system as set forth in claim 10, wherein said second driving means includes a cam gear, said cam gear being operatively connected with said elongate member.
- 12. A system for switching the traveling direction of a tape, comprising:
- a take-up reel table;
- a supply reel table;
- a first motor;
- a capstan axle which is driven to rotate by said first motor, said capstan axle being arranged to have the tape pressed thereagainst by a pinch roller;
- a pendulum gear which is in constant drive connection with said first motor and which is supported at the free end of a pivotal lever, said pivotal lever being movable between a first position wherein said pendulum gear is in drive connection with said take-up reel table and a second position wherein said pendulum gear is in drive connection with said supply reel table;
- a second motor; and
- means operatively interconnecting said second motor and said pivotal lever on which said pendulum gear is supported, for selectively using the rotational energy produced by said second motor to drive said pivotal lever to pivot between said first and second positions during a predetermined period of time during which (a) said first motor is stopped and no torque is applied to said pendulum gear from said first motor, and (b) said pinch roller presses the tape against said capstan axle.
- 13. A system for switching the traveling direction of a tape which selectively travels in one of first and second directions in an apparatus which has a first reel onto which the tape, which is traveling in the first direction, is wound, and a second reel onto which the tape traveling in the second direction, is wound, said system comprising:
- first means, including a rotatable axle in direct drive connection with the tape, for causing the tape to selectively travel in one of said first and second directions;
- first driving means, including an electric motor, for driving the first means in response to said first driving means being turned ON;
- second means, associated with said first driving means, for selectively providing a drive connection between said first driving means and one of said first and second reels so that the selected one of said first and second reels is driven to rotate and cause the tape to be wound onto the selected one of said first and second reels, said second means including a gear which is selectively movable to a first position wherein a drive connection between said first driving means and said first reel is established and is selectively movable to a second position wherein a drive connection between said first driving means and said second reel is established;
- third means for turning OFF the electric motor of said first driving means for a predetermined time period when the traveling direction of the tape is to be switched between said first direction and said second direction;
- fourth means for forcing said second means to provide a drive connection between said first driving means and the first reel when (a) the traveling direction of the tape is to be switched from the second direction to the first direction and (b) while the electric motor of said first driving means is turned OFF by said third means for said predetermined time period, and for forcing said second means to disconnect the drive connection between said first driving means and the first reel and to establish a drive connection between said first driving means and the second reel when (a) the traveling direction of the tape is to be switched from the first direction to the second direction and (b) while the electric motor of said first driving means is turned OFF by said third means for said predetermined time period; and
- second driving means for driving said fourth means; and
- wherein said first driving means further includes:
- a roller which presses said tape tightly against said axle, said roller remaining pressed tightly against said axle during said predetermined period during which said gear is moved between said first and second positions.
