Claims
- 1. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- means for forming an image on a recording material;
- means for feeding said recording material from a storage supply thereof to an image forming area;
- means for detecting a deficiency of said recording material in said storage supply and for providing an output signal indicative thereof;
- control means comprising a memory for storing a program allowing execution of image formation when no material deficiency is detected and when no output signal is received from said detecting means, and for disabling said image formation in response to a said detecting means output, wherein said control means controls operation of said apparatus according to said program and in response to said detecting means;
- input means for entering a specific instruction signal into said control means; and
- means for enabling operation of said apparatus despite an occurrence of said deficiency in accordance with entry of said specific instruction signal.
- 2. An image forming apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said enabling means comprises a switching means for on-off setting at an input of said control means, and wherein control in response to the function of a plurality of said detecting means may be omitted to enable the operation of said apparatus.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said input means enters the specific instruction signal into said control means to instruct omission of a portion of the program so as to permit the apparatus to operate without actually producing the image.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said memory stores a program portion for detecting said material deficiency in the apparatus, said control mean prevents said forming means from operating upon detection of the improper state by said program portion, and said specific instruction signal omits said program portion for detection of the material deficiency.
- 5. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- a recording material;
- means for forming an image on said recording material;
- a feed path for feeding said recording material to an image forming station and for ejecting said recording material therefrom;
- means for detecting jamming of said recording material; in said feed path; and
- control means for stopping subsequent operation of said image forming means in response to said detecting device said control means comprising a memory storing a program for stopping the operation of said image forming means, a member provided in a predetermined position in said feed path and adapted to be displaced by the arrival thereat of said recording material and means for generating a signal without contacting said member in response to displacement of said member to thereby detect a jammed recording material when said signal generating means does not generate said signal at a predetermined time.
- 6. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- means for forming an image on a recording material;
- means for feeding recording material from a storage supply thereof to an image forming area;
- a plurality of detecting means, each disposed at a different area in the apparatus, for detecting improper states of the apparatus, and for providing respective signals indicative of said improper states;
- control means comprising a memory storing a program allowing execution of image formation when no improper state is detected by a signal from any one of said plural detection means, and disabling said image formation upon detection of an improper state in response to a signal from at least one of said plural detecting means, and adapted to control operation of said apparatus according to said program and in response to said detecting means signals; detecting means output, wherein said control means controls operation of said apparatus according to said program and in response to said detecting means;
- input means for entering a specific instruction signal into said control means; and
- means for enabling operation of said apparatus despite an occurrence of said deficiency in accordance with entry of said specific instruction signal.
- 7. An image forming apparatus according to claim 6 wherein each of said plural detecting means detects an improper state relating to the recording material, and said enabling means enables the operation of the apparatus irrespective of the occurrence of an improper state and the outputting a signal from each of said detecting means.
- 8. An apparatus according to claim 6, wherein each of said plural detecting means detects a material deficiency; said enabling means enables the operation of the apparatus irrespective of the occurrence of the material deficiency.
- 9. An apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said input means instructs omission of a portion of the program so as to permit so the apparatus to operate without actually producing the image.
- 10. An apparatus according to claim 6 wherein said memory stores a program portion for detecting plural improper states in the apparatus, said control means prevents the apparatus from operating upon detection of the improper state by said program portion, and said input means omits said program portion for detections of the improper states.
- 11. An apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said input means is further operable to input instructions concerning the image formation.
- 12. An apparatus according to claim 11, wherein said input means comprises a dual purpose key which is selectively operable for the input of a numerical instruction as to the number of copies required and for instructing said omission.
- 13. An apparatus according to claim 11, wherein said input means comprise a ten key array for the input of a numerical instruction, and wherein said computer control means is responsive to the operation of keys of said ten-key array in accordance with a predetermined code to effect said omission of a program portion corresponding to said code.
- 14. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- operable means for forming an image on a recording material and for feeding the recording material from a supply thereof to an image forming area;
- computer control means for controlling the operation of said operable means for an image formation;
- manually operable input means for entering instructions concerning the image formation;
- wherein said control means includes a computer control means comprising a memory storing a program having instructions for operation of said operable means, and said input means is operable to instruct the omission of a portion of the program so as to permit the apparatus to operate without normal image formation.
- 15. An apparatus according to claim 14, wherein said input means comprises a dual purpose key which is selectively operable for the input of a numerical instruction as to the number of copies required and for instructing said omission.
- 16. An apparatus according to claim 14, wherein said input means comprises a ten key array for the input of a numerical instruction, and wherein said computer control means is responsive to the operation of keys of said ten-key array in accordance with a predetermined code to effect said omission of a program portion corresponding to said code.
- 17. An apparatus according to claim 14 wherein said memory stores a program portion for detecting an improper state in the apparatus, said computer control means prevents said operable means from operating upon detection of the improper state by said program portion, and said input means omits said program portion for detection of the improper state.
- 18. An apparatus according to claim 1, 6, or 14 wherein said program portion comprises instructions for responding to the detection of shortage of developer to be used in the formation of said image.
- 19. An apparatus according to claim 1, 6 or 14, wherein said program portion comprises instructions for responding to the detection of shortage of developer to be used in the formation of said image.
- 20. An apparatus according to claim 9 or 14, wherein said program portion comprises instructions for responding to the detection of jamming of recording material in a path of movement therefor defined in the apparatus.
- 21. An apparatus according to claim 14, wherein when the portion of the program is omitted, the apparatus is permitted to operate without actually producing the image.
- 22. An apparatus according to claim 14, wherein when said specific operation mode is omitted, the apparatus is permitted to operate despite of the occurrence of an improper state in the apparatus.
- 23. An image processing apparatus comprising:
- operable means for processing an original image;
- computer control means for controlling the operation of said operable means for an image process manual input means for entering instructions concerning the image process;
- wherein said control means include a computer control means comprising a memory storing a program having instructions for operation of the operable means, and said input means is operable to instruct the omission of a portion of the program so as to permit the apparatus to operate without normal image formation.
- 24. An apparatus according to claim 23, wherein when said specific operation mode is omitted, the apparatus is permitted to operate despite of the occurrence of an improper state in the apparatus.
- 25. A paper jam detecting device for use in an electrophotographic copying machine including means for starting the copying operation thereof, said device comprising:
- paper detecting means for detecting the presence or absence of the copy paper at at least one predetermined position in a path along which the copy paper moves,
- means for detecting the size of copy paper used in the copy process,
- feeding means for feeding the copy paper from a supply of copy paper to said path,
- timer means adapted to count first and second predetermined periods of time, means for controlling the counting of said second period of time in response to the size signal of said detecting means, means connected to said paper detecting means and said respective timer means for judging the state of the output of the paper detecting means in response to the instructions provided by the timer means so as to generate signals indicative of a paper jam if no paper is detected when the timer means completed the counting of the first period of time and if paper is detected when the timer means has completed the counting of the second period of time.
- 26. In an electrophotographic copying machine the combination comprising:
- paper detecting means for detecting the presence or absence of the copy paper at at least one predetermined position in a path along which the copy paper moves,
- means for starting the copy process,
- means for detecting the size of copy paper used in the copy process,
- feeding means for feeding the copy paper from a supply of copy paper to said path,
- means connected to said feeding means for driving said feeding means in response to the operation of the copy process starting means,
- control means for controlling the operation of the copying machine sequentially in accordance with a control program stored therein and to which said paper size detecting means is connected,
- pulse generating means connected to said control means for generating a pulse train used as standard pulses for operating the control means,
- digital timer means connected to said control means for counting first and second periods of time to generate signals showing that the first and second periods of time have elapsed by counting the number of said standard pulses,
- means connected to said digital timer means for synchronizing the starting of the operation of the digital timer means with the motion of the copying machine,
- means for controlling the counting of pulses corresponding to said second periods of time in response to the size signal by said detecting means,
- means connected to said paper detecting means and said digital timer means for sensing the state of the output of the paper detecting means in response to the instructions provided by the digital timer means so as to generate signals indicative of a paper jam if no paper is detected when the digital timer means has completed counting of the period of time and if paper is detected when the digital timer means has completed counting of the second period of time set in the timer means.
