Claims
- 1. A handle and tongue assembly comprising:
a tongue portion having a first end and a second end, wherein the first end is adapted for attachment to a towed vehicle, wherein the second end has a clevis with a pair of legs extending therefrom; a handle portion having an attachment region and a gripping region, wherein the attachment region has a first pair of legs; and an attachment means that engages the pair of clevis legs and the first pair of attachment region legs to attach the handle portion to the tongue portion.
- 2. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 1, wherein the attachment region has a second pair of legs, and wherein the first pair of attachment region legs extend between the second pair of attachment region legs to define a recess that is adapted to at least partially receive the clevis.
- 3. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 1, wherein the attachment means is a bolt.
- 4. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 1, wherein the handle portion is retained in a stationary orientation with respect to the tongue portion when the handle portion is attached to the tongue portion.
- 5. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 1, wherein the handle portion is pivotable with respect to the tongue portion when the handle portion is attached to the tongue portion.
- 6. A handle and tongue assembly comprising:
a tongue portion having a first end and a second end, wherein the first end is adapted for attachment to a towed vehicle, wherein the second end has a clevis; and a handle portion having an attachment region and a gripping region, wherein the attachment region releasably engages the clevis so that the towed vehicle is movable by manually grasping the gripping region.
- 7. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 6, wherein the clevis has a pair of legs, wherein the attachment region has a first pair of legs, and wherein the pair of clevis legs engage the attachment region first pair of legs when the handle portion is attached to the tongue portion.
- 8. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 7, wherein the attachment region has a second pair of legs, and wherein the first pair of legs extend between the second pair of legs to define a recess that is adapted to at least partially receive the clevis.
- 9. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 7, wherein the pair of clevis legs and the attachment region first pair of legs each have an aperture extending therethrough.
- 10. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 6, and further comprising an attaching pin that engages the clevis and the attachment region for removably attaching the handle portion to the tongue portion.
- 11. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 6, wherein the handle portion is retained in a stationary orientation with respect to the tongue portion when the handle portion is attached to the tongue portion.
- 12. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 6, wherein the handle portion is pivotable with respect to the tongue portion when the handle portion is attached to the tongue portion.
- 13. A handle and tongue assembly for manually moving and positioning a towed vehicle comprising:
a tongue portion having a first end and a second end, wherein the first end is adapted to attach to the towed vehicle, wherein the tongue portion has at least a first coupling aperture formed therethrough, wherein the first coupling aperture is disposed near the second end, wherein an axis of the first coupling aperture is substantially orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the tongue portion, whereby the tongue portion can be coupled to the towing vehicle with a pin removably disposed through the first coupling aperture; and a handle portion having an attachment portion and a gripping portion, wherein the attachment portion is detachably coupled to the second end of the tongue portion, wherein the gripping portion is adapted so as to be grippable by a user.
- 14. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 13, further comprising:
a second coupling aperture, the second coupling aperture being formed through the attachment portion, the second coupling aperture being co-axially alignable with the first coupling aperture; and at least a first attaching pin, the first attaching pin being removably disposable through the first and second coupling apertures so as to detachably couple the tongue portion and the handle member.
- 15. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 13, wherein the second end of the tongue portion has a recess, the recess being adapted to receive the attachment portion of the handle.
- 16. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 13, wherein the attachment portion has a recess, the recess being adapted to receive the second end of the tongue portion.
- 17. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 13, wherein the attaching pin has a first end and a second end, the first end having a head, the head being of a predetermined size larger than the first and second coupling apertures;
wherein the attaching pin has a cotter pin hole formed therethrough, the cotter pin hole being disposed near the second end, the axis of the cotter pin hole being substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the pin; and further comprising a cotter pin, a branch of the cotter pin being insertable in the cotter pin hole, whereby the attaching pin can be temporarily secured in place.
- 18. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 13, wherein the attaching pin is a threaded fastener.
- 19. A handle and tongue assembly for manually moving and positioning a trailer comprising:
an elongated tongue member having a first end and a second end, wherein the first end is operably attachable to the trailer, and wherein the second end has a clevis, each branch of the clevis having a clevis aperture formed therethrough, the clevis apertures being substantially co-axially aligned; a handle member having an attachment portion and a gripping portion, the attachment portion comprising a pair of side walls, the side walls being substantially parallel and spaced apart at a predetermined distance so as to form a recess therebetween, wherein the recess is adapted to receive the clevis, each side wall having an attaching aperture formed therethrough, the attaching apertures disposed so as to be substantially co-axially alignable with the clevis apertures when the tongue member and the handle member are mated together, the gripping portion adapted so as to be grippable by a user; and an attaching pin, adapted to be insertable through the clevis apertures and attaching apertures so as to attach the handle member to the tongue member.
- 20. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 19, further comprising a pair of opposing end walls, each end wall extending between opposing margins of the side walls to define the recess on four sides.
- 21. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 19, wherein the attaching pin has a first end and a second end, the first end having a head, the head being of a predetermined size larger than the clevis apertures and attaching apertures;
wherein the attaching pin has a cotter pin hole formed therethrough, the cotter pin hole being disposed near the second end, the axis of the cotter pin hole being substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the pin; and further comprising a cotter pin, a branch of the cotter pin being insertable in the cotter pin hole, whereby the attaching pin can be temporarily secured in place.
- 22. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 19, wherein the attaching pin is a threaded fastener.
- 23. A handle and tongue assembly for manually moving and positioning a trailer comprising:
an elongated tongue member having a first end and a second end, wherein the first end is operably attachable to the trailer, and wherein the second end has at least a first coupling aperture formed therethrough, the first coupling aperture being disposed near the second end of the tongue member, the axis of the first coupling aperture being substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the tongue member; a handle member having an attachment portion and a gripping portion, the attachment portion comprising a pair of side walls, the side walls being substantially parallel and spaced apart at a predetermined distance so as to form a recess therebetween, wherein the recess is adapted to receive the second end of the tongue member, each side wall having an attaching aperture formed therethrough, the attaching apertures disposed so as to be substantially co-axially alignable with the coupling aperture when the tongue member and the handle member are mated together, the gripping portion adapted so as to be grippable by a user; and an attaching pin, adapted to be insertable through the attaching apertures and the coupling aperture so as to attach the handle member to the tongue member.
- 24. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 23, further comprising a pair of opposing end walls, each end wall extending between opposing margins of the side walls to define the recess on four sides.
- 25. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 23, wherein the attaching pin has a first end and a second end, the first end having a head, the head being of a predetermined size larger than the attaching apertures and the coupling aperture;
wherein the attaching pin has a cotter pin hole formed therethrough, the cotter pin hole being disposed near the second end, the axis of the cotter pin hole being substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the pin; and further comprising a cotter pin, a branch of the cotter pin being insertable in the cotter pin hole, whereby the attaching pin can be temporarily secured in place.
- 26. The handle and tongue assembly of claim 23, wherein the attaching pin is a threaded fastener.
