Claims
- 1. A scanning system for scanning an image formed on an image bearing member at a first location and reproducing the image reduced in size and substantially centered on an area of an output medium, said scanning system including a medium sensitive to an output scanning laser beam generated by laser means comprising:
- first means for determing the border areas that will be formed within said area of said output medium by said reduced image and producing first signals representative of the position of said border areas with respect to said sensitive medium,
- second means for generating second signals representing the position of said output scanning laser beam with respect to said sensitive medium,
- means for comparing said first signals with said second signals and generating a signal as a result of said comparison, and
- means for energizing said laser means when said signal is generated, said sensitive medium being scanned by said output laser beam to form border areas thereon corresponding to the border areas on said output medium.
- 2. A system as defined in claim 1 wherein said sensitive medium comprises a xerographic member.
- 3. The system as defined in claim 2 wherein said laser beam discharges charged areas of the xerographic member in a manner whereby said reduced image is formed within an area of the xerographic member which corresponds to the nonborder areas.
- 4. The system as defined in claim 1 wherein said reduced image is formed as a plurality of scan lines.
- 5. A method for scanning an image formed on an image bearing member supported on a platen at a first location and reproducing the image, reduced in size and substantially centered on an area of an output medium comprising the steps of:
- determining the border areas that will be formed within said area of said output medium by said reduced image and producing first signals representative of the position of said border areas with respect to a medium sensitive to an output scanning laser beam,
- generating second signals representing the position of said output scanning laser beam with respect to said sensitive medium,
- comparing said first sginals with second signals and generating a signal as a result of said comparison, and
- causing said output scanning laser beam to scan said sensitive medium when said signal is generated to form border areas thereon corresponding to the border areas on said output medium.
- 6. The method as defined in claim 5 wherein said sensitive medium comprises a xerographic member.
- 7. The system as defined in claim 6 wherein said laser beam discharges charged areas of the xerographic member in a manner whereby said reduced image is formed within an area of the xerographic member which corresponds to the nonborder areas.
- 8. The method as defined in claim 5 wherein said reduced image is scanned as a plurality of scan lines.
