Claims
- 1. A monitor controller for converting an original digital image into a digital image having a different number of pixels in accordance with an instructed conversion magnification factor, comprising:
- an input unit, which inputs the original digital image data
- a converted image generation circuit, which generates pixel data for interpolation pixels to be interpolated in the original digital image data inputted by the input unit in accordance with a predetermined number of interpolation pixels and positions where the interpolation pixels are interpolated in accordance with the instructed conversion magnification factor so as to obtain a converted digital image;
- wherein the converted image generation circuit generates each of value representing a gray scale level of the interpolation pixels for interpolating between corresponding to the adjacent two pixels of the original digital image basis on values of the adjacent two pixels of the original digital image data and a first type of interpolation equation when a difference between the value of the adjacent two pixels of the original digital image data is equal to a threshold or less than the threshold, and the converted image generation circuit generates each of the value representing the gray scale level of the interpolation pixels for interpolating between corresponding to adjacent two pixels of the original digital image basis on values of the adjacent two pixels of the original digital image data and a second type of interpolation equation when the difference between the values of the adjacent two pixels of the original digital image data is larger than the threshold, and said first type of interpolation equation is a straight line function, and said second type of interpolation equation is a spline function.
- 2. A monitor controller according to claim 1, wherein the converted image generation circuit comprising:
- a difference calculation circuit, which calculates a difference between the values of the adjacent two pixels of the original digital image data;
- a pixel data calculation circuit, which calculates the value representing the gray scale level of the interpolation pixels for interpolating between the adjacent two pixels of the original digital image basis on the first and second type of interpolation equations;
- a selection circuit, which selects the value of the gray scale level of each interpolation pixel calculated by the pixel data calculation circuit based on the first type of interpolation equation when the differences calculated by the difference calculation circuit is equal to, or less than, the threshold, and selects the gray scale level of each interpolation pixel calculated by the pixel data calculation circuit based on the second type of interpolation equation when the difference is greater than the threshold.
- 3. A monitor controller according to claim 1, wherein the converted image generation circuit comprising:
- the first type of interpolation equation for generating the value of the gray scale level of each interpolation pixel is characteristic of removing high frequency components in the original digital image,
- the second type of interpolation equation for generating the value of the gray scale level of each interpolation pixel is characteristic of maintaining the high frequency components in the original digital image compared with the first type of interpolation equation.
- 4. A monitor controller according to claim 1, wherein the input unit inputs the instructed conversion magnification factor designating an enlargement rate.
- 5. A monitor controller according to claim 1, wherein the converted image generation circuit is set at a predetermined enlargement rate for converting inputted original digital image data to the digital image.
