Claims
- 1. A syringe for injecting medicine into an intravenous connector, said syringe comprising:
a barrel; a plunger operatively connected with said barrel; an adapter connected to said barrel; and a filling spike engageable with said adapter to fill said barrel with medicine, said adapter disengageable from said filling spike and engageable with said intravenous connector whereby medicine may be ejected from said barrel and into a patient through said intravenous connector.
- 2. The syringe according to claim 1 wherein said adapter is threadedly engaged with said adapter.
- 3. The syringe of claim 1 wherein said adapter includes a connector portion which comprises a luer fitting.
- 4. The syringe according to claim 1 wherein said filling spike includes a guard and a sheath, said sheath frangibly connected to said sheath.
- 5. The syringe according to claim 4 wherein said sheath includes a pointed end for penetrating a membrane of a medicine vial.
- 6. A syringe comprising:
a barrel having a connector; a plunger operatively connected with said barrel; a retractable needle assembly; a filling spike; an adapter, said barrel selectively connectable to said filling spike and said adapter for filling said syringe with medicine, to said retractable needle assembly for administering medicine to a patient, and to said adapter and an intravenous connector for intravenously administering medicine to a patient.
- 7. The syringe according to claim 6 wherein said barrel is lockingly connectable to said retractable needle assembly.
- 8. The syringe according to claim 6 wherein said barrel is engageably connectable to said filling spike and said adapter.
- 9. The syringe according to claim 6 wherein said barrel is disengageably connectable to said adapter and an intravenous connector.
- 10. An adapter for use with a syringe, said adapter comprising an elongated conduit having a first end with first threads for engagement with a syringe, and a second end with second threads for selective engagement with one of a filling spike and an intravenous connector, whereby said adapter permits filling of said syringe with medicine by means of a said spike and administration of medicine to a patient by means of said intravenous connector.
- 11. The adapter of claim 10 wherein said first threads comprise a portion of a luer fitting.
- 12. The adapter of claim 10 wherein said second threads comprise a portion of a luer fitting.
