Claims
- 1. A silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, wherein the emulsion layer or at least one other hydrophilic colloid layer contains at least one hydrazine derivative, at least one redox compound capable of releasing a development inhibitor by an oxidation product of a developing agent, and at least one mercapto-heterocyclic compound represented by one of the following formulas (IV), (V) and (VI): ##STR15## wherein Y and Z each represents N or CR.sup.12 ; R.sup.12 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group;
- R.sup.11 represents at least one organic group selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an aryl group having from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, or an alkyl or aryl group containing a linking group selected from the group consisting of --S--, --O--, --N.dbd., --CO--, --SO-- and --S.sub.2 13 ; wherein R.sup.11 has been substituted by at least one group selected from the group consisting of --SO.sub.3 M, --COOM, --SO.sub.2 NHR.sup.1, --NHCONHRO.sup.1, --NHSO.sub.2 R.sup.1, --CO.sub.2 NHR.sup.1, --NHCOR.sup.1, --PO.sub.3 M and --OH in which R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms; M represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, a quaternary ammonium group or a quaternary phosphonium group; ##STR16## wherein X represents a sulfur atom, an oxygen atom, a selenium atom or --N(R.sup.16)--;
- R.sup.16 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an aryl group;
- L represents --CONR.sup.17 --, --NR.sup.17 CO--, --SO.sub.2 NR.sup.17 --, --NR.sup.17 SO.sub.2 --, --OCO--, --COO--, --S--, --NR.sup.17 --, --CO--, --SO--, --OCOO--, --NR.sup.17 CONR.sup.18 --, --NR.sup.17 COO--, --OCONR.sup.17 -- or --NR.sup.17 SO.sub.2 NR.sup.18 --;
- R.sup.17 and R.sup.18 each represents a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group;
- R.sup.13, R.sup.14 and R.sup.15 each represents a hydrogen atom or a substitutable group;
- n represents 0 or 1;
- M represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, a quaternary ammonium group or a quaternary phosphonium group;
- and R.sup.11 represents at least one organic group selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an aryl group having from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, or an alkyl or aryl group containing a linking group selected from the group consisting of --S--, --O--, --N.dbd., --CO--, --SO-- and --SO.sub.2 --; wherein R.sup.11 has been substituted by at least one group selected from the group consisting of --SO.sub.3 M, --COOM, --SO.sub.2 NHR.sup.1, --NHCONHR.sup.1, --NHSO .sub.2 R.sup.1, --CO.sub.2 NHR.sup.1, --NHCOR.sup.1, --PO.sub.3 M and --OH in which R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms; and wherein R.sup.11 is further substituted by a halogen atom, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, an alkyl group when R.sup.11 is an aryl group, an aryl group when R.sup.11 is an alkyl group, an amide group, a carbamoyl group, a sulfonamide group, a cyano group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an aryloxycarbonyl group or a nitro group; ##STR17## wherein M represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, a quaternary ammonium group or a quaternary phosphonium group;
- R.sup.11 has the same meaning as in formula (IV);
- L represents --CONR.sup.17 --, --NR.sup.17 CO--, --SO.sub.2 NR.sup.17 --, --NR.sup.17 SO.sub.2 --, --OCO--, --COO--, --S--, --NR.sup.17 --, --CO--, --SO--, --OCOO--, --NR.sup.17 CONR.sup.18 --, --NR.sup.17 COO--, --OCONR.sup.17 -- or --NR.sup.17 SO.sub.2 NR.sup.18 --;
- R.sup.17 and R.sup.18 each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group;
- n represents 0 or 1;
- X represents a sulfur atom, an oxygen atom, a selenium atom or --N(R.sup.16)--;
- and R.sup.16 represents a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, or an aryl group.
- 2. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the silver halide in the emulsion has a silver chloride content of 50 mol % or more based on the total silver halide content.
- 3. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the hydrazine derivative is represented by formula (II): ##STR18## where R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, an amino group, or a hydroxyl group;
- G.sub.1 represents --CO--, --SO.sub.2 --, --SO--, --R.sub.2 PO--, ##STR19## a thiocarbonyl group, or an iminomethylene group; and A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 are both hydrogen atoms, or one of them represents a hydrogen atom and the other represents an alkylsulfonyl group, an arylsulfonyl group, or an acyl group.
- 4. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the redox compound is represented by formula (R-1): ##STR20## where R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; G.sub.1 represents --CO--, ##STR21## --SO--, --SO.sub.2 --or ##STR22## G.sub.2 represents a mere chemical bond or represents --O--, --S-- or --NR.sub.2 --;
- R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom or R.sub.1 ;
- A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkylsulfonyl group, an arylsulfonyl group or an acyl group, provided that at least one of A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 must be a hydrogen atom, Time represents a divalent linking group, which may have a timing function;
- PUG represents a development inhibitor; and t represents 0 or 1.
- 5. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the redox compound is represented by formula (R-2): ##STR23## wherein R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; G.sub.1 represents --CO--, ##STR24## --SO.sub.2 -- or ##STR25## A.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkylsulfonyl group, an arylsulfonyl group or an acyl group, which may be substituted; A.sub.3 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkylsulfonyl group, an arylsulfonyl group or an acyl group, or represents --CH.sub.2 --C(A.sub.4)H--(Time).sub.t --PUG; A.sub.4 represents a nitro group, a cyano group, a carboxyl group, a sulfo group or --G.sub.1 --G.sub.2 --R.sub.1 ;
- G.sub.2 represents a mere chemical bond or represents --O--, --S-- or --NR.sub.2 --; R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom or R.sub.1 ; Time represents a divalent linking group, which may have a timing function; PUG represents a development inhibitor; and t represents 0 or 1.
- 6. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the redox compound is represented by formula (R-3): ##STR26## R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; A.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkylsulfonyl group, an arylsulfonyl group or an acyl group;
- Time represents a divalent linking group, which may have a timing function;
- PUG represents a development inhibitor; and t represents 0 or 1.
- 7. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the hydrazine derivative is used in an amount of from 1.times.10.sup.-6 mol to 5.times.10.sup.-2 mol per mol of silver halide in the material.
- 8. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the redox compound is used in an amount of from 1.times.10.sup.-6 mol to 5.times.10.sup.-2 mol per mol of silver halide in the material.
- 9. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the compound represented by formula (I) is used in an amount of from 1.0.times.10.sup.-6 mol to 5.0.times.10.sup.-2 mol per mol of the silver in the material.
- 10. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the mercapto-heterocyclic compound is represented by formula (IV).
- 11. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the mercapto-heterocyclic compound is represented by formula (V).
- 12. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the mercapto-heterocyclic compound is represented by formula (VI).
- 13. The silver halide photographic material as in claim 1, wherein the material is black and white photographic material.
