Claims
- 1. A stimulable phosphor exhibiting photostimulated luminescence when excited initially by X-ray radiation and then with electromagnetic waves having a wave length of 500 to 1000 nm, said phosphor being represented by the formula:
- (BaBr.sub.2).sub.1-a .multidot.A.sub.a :bEu.sup.2+,
- wherein A represents at least one metal oxide selected from the group consisting of BeO, MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO, ZnO, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, Y.sub.2 O.sub.3, La.sub.2 O.sub.3, Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3, SiO.sub.2, TiO.sub.2, ZrO.sub.2, GeO.sub.2, SnO.sub.2, Nb.sub.2 O.sub.5, Ta.sub.2 O.sub.5 and ThO.sub.2 ; and wherein 0<a<0.1 and 0<b.ltoreq.0.2.
- 2. A method of making a stimulable phosphor as set forth in claim 1, comprising the steps of:
- preparing a starting mixture containing elements corresponding to the formula set forth in claim 1; and
- firing said starting mixture in a helium atmosphere containing hydrogen at 500.degree.-1000.degree. C.
- 3. A X-ray image transforming sheet comprising a stimulable phosphor as set forth in claim 1 on a substrate.
- 4. A stimulable phosphor as set forth in claim 1, wherein A represents Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, SiO.sub.2, BaO, Y.sub.2 O.sub.3, TiO.sub.2, ZiO.sub.2 or GeO.
- 5. A stimulable phosphor exhibiting photostimulated luminescence when excited initially by X-ray radiation and then with electromagnetic waves having a wave length of 500 to 1000 nm, said phosphor being represented by the formula BaBr.sub.2 :bEu.sup.2+, wherein 0<b.ltoreq.0.2.
- 6. A method of making a stimulable phosphor as set forth in claim 5, comprising the steps of:
- preparing a starting mixture containing elements corresponding to the formula set forth in claim 5; and
- firing said starting mixture in a helium atmosphere containing hydrogen at 500.degree.-1000.degree. C.
- 7. A X-ray image transforming sheet comprising a stimulable phosphor as set forth in claim 5 on a substrate.
- 8. A stimulable phosphor exhibiting photostimulated luminescence when excited initially by X-ray radiation and then with electromagnetic waves generated by a semiconductor laser, said phosphor being represented by the formula:
- (BaBr.sub.2).sub.1-a .multidot.A.sub.a :bEu.sup.2+,
- wherein A represents at least one metal oxide selected from the group consisting of BeO, MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO, ZnO, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, Y.sub.2 O.sub.3, La.sub.2 O.sub.3, Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3, SiO.sub.2, TiO.sub.2, ZrO.sub.2, GeO.sub.2, SnO.sub.2, Nb.sub.2 O.sub.5, Ta.sub.2 O.sub.5 and ThO.sub.2 ; and wherein 0<a<0.1 and 0<b.ltoreq.0.2.
- 9. A stimulable phosphor exhibiting photostimulated luminescence when excited initially by X-ray radiation and then with electromagnetic waves generated by a semiconductor laser, said phosphor being represented by the formula BaBr.sub.2 :bEu.sup.2+, wherein 0<b.ltoreq.0.2.
- 10. A stimulable phosphor exhibiting photostimulated luminescence when excited initially by X-ray radiation and then by visible or infrared light, said phosphor being represented by the formula:
- (BaBr.sub.2).sub.1-a .multidot.A.sub.a :bEu.sup.2+,
- wherein A represents at least one metal oxide selected from the group consisting of BeO, MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO, ZnO, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, Y.sub.2 O.sub.3, La.sub.2 O.sub.3, Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3, SiO.sub.2, TiO.sub.2, ZrO.sub.2, GeO.sub.2, SnO.sub.2, Nb.sub.2 O.sub.5, Ta.sub.2 O.sub.5 and ThO.sub.2 ; and wherein 0<a<0.1 and 0<b.ltoreq.0.2.
- 11. A stimulable phosphor exhibiting photostimulated luminescence when excited initially by X-ray radiation and then by visible or infrared light, said phosphor being represented by the formula BaBr.sub.2 :bEu.sup.2+, wherein 0<b.ltoreq.0.2.
