Claims
- 1. A telephone call recording system for recording a telephone call between a first telephone operated by a user and a second telephone having a destination telephone number associated therewith, each of said first and second telephones being coupled to a telecommunications network, said system comprising:
a server coupled to the telecommunications network and having an access telephone number associated therewith, said server including means for setting up the telephone call between the first and second telephones upon entry of the destination telephone number by the first telephone to said server such that said server routes a telecommunication connection through the telecommunications network from said server to the second telephone and places in communication the first and second telephones, and means for recording the telephone call including at least one recording option selected from the group of automatically recording said telephone call upon answer of the telephone call by the second telephone and selectively recording a portion of the telephone call upon entry of a signal on the first telephone.
- 2. A telephone call recording system according to claim 1, further comprising:
means for storing the recorded telephone call for later retrieval by the user.
- 3. A telephone call recording system according to claim 2, wherein:
said stored recorded telephone call is a compressed data file.
- 4. A telephone call recording system according to claim 3, further comprising:
means for downloading said stored recorded telephone call to a personal computer connected to the server.
- 5. A telephone call recording system according to claim 2, further comprising:
means for listening to the stored recorded telephone call.
- 6. A telephone call recording system according to claim 1, further comprising:
means for verifying an incoming telephone call from the first telephone to the server as belonging the user.
- 7. A telephone call recording system according to claim 6, wherein:
said means for verifying includes at least one of caller line identification and verification of a passcode.
- 8. A telephone call recording system according to claim 6, wherein:
said means for verifying includes caller line identification for a plurality of telephone numbers of the user.
- 9. A telephone call recording system according to claim 8, wherein:
at least one of said telephone numbers of the user is for a land-based telephone line, and at least another of said telephone numbers of the user is for a mobile telephone.
- 10. A telephone call recording system according to claim 1, wherein:
at least one of said first and second telephones is a mobile telephone.
- 11. A telephone call recording system according to claim 3, further comprising:
means for transcribing the stored recorded telephone call, and means for transmitting the transcription to the user.
- 12. A telephone call recording system according to claim 1, further comprising:
means for billing the cost of the recording.
- 13. A telephone call recording system according to claim 12, wherein:
said means for billing includes means for debiting the cost of the recording from a pre-paid account of the user.
- 14. A telephone call recording system for recording a telephone call between a first telephone operated by a user and a second telephone having a destination telephone number associated therewith, each of said first and second telephones being coupled to the telecommunications network, said system comprising:
a server coupled to the telecommunications network and having an access telephone number associated therewith, said server including means for setting up the telephone call between the first and second telephones upon entry of the destination telephone number by the first telephone to said server such that said server routes a telecommunication connection through the telecommunications network from said server to the second telephone and places in communication the first and second telephones, and means for automatically recording the telephone call upon answer of the telephone call by the second telephone.
- 15. A telephone call recording system for recording a telephone call between a first telephone operated by a user and a second telephone having a destination telephone number associated therewith, each of said first and second telephones being coupled to the telecommunications network, said system comprising:
a server coupled to the telecommunications network and having an access telephone number associated therewith, said server including means for setting up the telephone call between the first and second telephones upon entry of the destination telephone number by the first telephone to said server such that said server routes a telecommunication connection through the telecommunications network from said server to the second telephone and places in communication the first and second telephones, and means for selectively recording a portion of the telephone call upon entry of a signal at the first telephone.
- 16. A method for recording a telephone call between a first telephone operated by a user and a second telephone having a destination telephone number associated therewith, the first and second telephones being coupled to a telecommunications network, the telecommunications network also having a system server connected thereto, said system server having an access number associated therewith, said method comprising:
a) using the first telephone to dial the access telephone number of the server; b) entering the destination telephone on the first telephone; c) dialing the destination telephone by the server; d) upon telecommunication between the server and the second telephone, placing the first and second telephones in communication such that a telephone call exists therebetween; and e) recording at least a portion of the telephone call.
- 17. A method according to claim 16, further comprising:
selecting a mode of recording the telephone call.
- 18. A method according to claim 16, wherein:
said mode is one of automatically recording said telephone call upon answer of the telephone call by the second telephone, and selectively recording a portion of the telephone call.
- 19. A method according to claim 18, wherein:
said mode is selectively recording a portion of the telephone call, and said recording is initiated by entry of a signal at the first telephone.
- 20. A method according to claim 16, further comprising:
terminating the recording of at least a portion of the telephone call prior to termination of the telephone call.
- 21. A method according to claim 20, wherein:
said recording is restarted and again stopped such that the recorded call includes multiple portions of a conversation.
- 22. A method according to claim 16, further comprising:
storing the recorded call as a data file.
- 23. A method according to claim 22, further comprising:
compressing the data file.
- 24. A method according to claim 22, further comprising:
assigning an identification code to the data file.
- 25. A method according to claim 22, further comprising:
listening to said stored data file.
- 26. A method according to claim 22, further comprising:
downloading said stored data file to a personal computer in telecommunication with said system server.
- 27. A method according to claim 22, further comprising:
sending said stored data file to an email account of the user.
- 28. A method according to claim 22, further comprising:
transcribing said stored data file; and sending the transcription to the user.
- 29. A method according to claim 16, further comprising:
upon using the first telephone to dial the access telephone number of the server, verifying an identification of the user of the first telephone.
- 30. A method according to claim 29, wherein:
said verification includes caller line identification.
- 31. A method according to claim 29, wherein:
said verification includes matching a passcode entered at the first telephone with a passcode stored in the system server.
- 32. A method according to claim 16, further comprising:
debiting a cost for said recording from a pre-paid account.
- 33. A method for recording words spoken into a telephone and retrieving the recording of the spoken words, comprising:
a) dialing on a first telephone an access telephone number of a system server connected to the telecommunications network; b) starting recording at said server spoken words input from said first telephone; c) stopping said recording; d) storing said recorded spoken words as a data file on a storage server; and e) sending said data file to an email account.
- 34. A method according to claim 33, wherein:
said system server is said storage server.
- 35. A method according to claim 33, wherein:
said starting said recording and said stopping said recording each occur multiple times.
- 36. A method according to claim 33, further comprising:
f) after dialing said access number and prior to starting recording, entering a destination telephone number to said server; g) dialing the destination telephone by the server; and h) upon telecommunication between the server and the second telephone, placing the first and second telephones in communication such that a telephone call exists therebetween, wherein said spoken words comprise a telephone conversation between users of the first and second telephones.
- 37. A method for recording a telephone call and retrieving the recorded telephone call, comprising:
a) recording a telephone conversation; b) storing said recorded telephone conversation as a data file; c) accessing said recording telephone conversation from a world-wide page; and d) at least one of listening to said data file, sending said data file to an email account, and downloading said data file to a personal computer.
- 38. A method for recording a telephone call between a calling party at a first telephone and a called party at a second telephone, the telephone call being transmitted through a telephone company switch having an appliance coupled thereto, said method comprising:
a) the calling party initiating the telephone call with the called party; b) the called party entering a signal into the second telephone; c) the signal being routed to the appliance; d) the appliance recording at least a portion of a conversation on the telephone call; and e) storing in a storage location said recorded telephone conversation as a data file.
- 39. A method according to claim 38, wherein:
the signal includes one or more DTMF tones.
- 40. A method according to claim 38, wherein:
the telephone company switch is a class 4 or a class 5 switch.
- 41. A method according to claim 38, further comprising:
retrieving said data file from the storage location; and at least one of listening to said data file, sending said data file to an email account, and downloading said data file to a personal computer.
- 42. A method according to claim 38, further comprising:
sending said data file to an email account.
- 43. A method for recording a telephone call by a user of a first telephone, the first telephone being coupled to a telecommunications network having a telephone company switch and a telephone call recording and call retrieval server or appliance coupled to the switch, said method comprising:
a) routing through the server or appliance all telephone calls made to or from the first telephone and which extend over the telephone company switch; and b) recording by the server or appliance at least a portion of a conversation on at least one of the telephone calls.
- 44. A method according to claim 43, further comprising:
c) using said first telephone to send a signal to said server or appliance, said signal causing said recording to begin.
- 45. A method of setting up a conference call, comprising:
a) calling with a first telephone an access number for a server such that a connection is created between the first telephone and the server; b) creating a connection for the server to a second telephone such that a telephone call between the first and second telephone calls is set up; c) one of providing to the first telephone and entering by the first telephone a conference identification code for a conference; d) providing the conference identification code to additional parties while maintaining the connection between the first telephone and the server; e) one of the additional parties calling with a third telephone an access number for the server such that a connection is created between the third telephone and the server; f) entering from the third telephone the conference identification code to the server; and g) conferencing the third telephone with the first telephone.
- 46. A method according to claim 45, wherein:
the one of the additional parties pays for the cost of the connection between the third telephone and the server.
- 47. A method of setting up a conference call, comprising:
a) creating a first telephone call between a first telephone and a second telephone; b) requesting a conference with the first telephone; c) one of providing to the first telephone and entering by the first telephone a conference identification code for the conference; d) providing the conference identification code to additional parties while maintaining the connection between the first telephone and the second telephone; e) one of the additional parties calling with a third telephone an access number for a conference appliance; f) entering from the third telephone the conference identification code to the conference appliance; and g) conferencing the third telephone with the first telephone.
